Negative energy comes at us in all kinds of ways, usually when we’re not expecting it.

Sometimes this can lead to feelings of overwhelm and at other times, it’s relatively manageable.

Negative energy will invite itself in whether you like it or not and is all part and parcel of life. The exciting thing however is that you don’t have to suffer along the way.

Times are changing and our minds are developing rapidly from one generation to the next.

Wouldn’t you like to make a conscious decision to let go of this kind of debilitating negative energy if you absolutely knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that life would instantly become more joyful for you and those around you?

It all sounds so easy doesn’t it, but the truth is most of us never get this far. Most people forget or aren’t aware that the mind is the principle cause of suffering.

So if the mind is the cause, we can only assume that the mind has the answer…

walk in nature and shed negative energy

Imagine walking along a pathway in a beautiful forest.

All you can hear is the sound of birds in the trees and a babbling brook in the near distance. The fall leaves create a magnificent display of flaming colors and the ones that have fallen into a thick carpet, crunch beneath your feet as you meander on soaking up the magnificent beauty of nature.

As you fill your lungs with clean pure air you feel exhilarated and glad to be alive. Grateful even!

Before long you come across a very tired looking lady who seems to be collecting wood. You can sense a kind of sadness within her and ask if she needs some help.

Her reply …

“When I began my walk I picked up a stone which I name loneliness, and put it in my bag.

I picked up another stone and it was for anger towards my cruel step father.

As I traveled, I picked stones for – jealousy of my brother who was always the perfect one, mistrust of others, guilt, isolation, fear, and uncertainty.

Soon the beautiful forest I was traveling through ceased to capture my attention.

My gunnysack was so full and so heavy I could think of nothing else.”

The forest is very much like that walk through life.

The average person begins life with very few negative emotions, however as we proceed through life we begin to collect them like souvenirs and carry them around in a backpack. By early adulthood this backpack has developed into a rather heavy gunny sack and in psychology this is known as “gunny sacking”.

Gunny sacking is the process of stuffing into a bag, unresolved anger, resentments, disappointments and all our accumulated negative emotions.

Since we have suffered and paid a price for these, because of what we have been through and endured, we convince ourselves that these negative emotions are ours and that nobody is going to talk us out of them. The ego clings on to them and would have us believe that this gunny sack is like ammunition and is needed for our protection.

The truth is (and Oprah firmly believes this to be true as stated in the below 60 second video) that we can only move forward and develop our true potential in direct proportion to the amount of negative emotions we are willing to release.

So you see, holding on to that negative energy is like driving a car with the emergency brake on.

Have you ever driven along in your vehicle and felt it was going slow and sluggish, put your foot down and still not increased your speed much, then looking down, realized that your emergency brake was still on? Then when you released your emergency brake the car began to perform as it should?

This is exactly what happens with your life when you hold onto negative emotions. It’s like driving your life with the brakes on.

Of course it’s possible to move forward slowly, however just as the stress and the strain on the engine and other parts of the car will cause damage and wear it out, equally the negative emotions are what tire and wear us out.

Don’t be put off by the various types of meditation, just start with one and see how it fits into your daily life.

Try this simple breathing meditation, this is the classic meditation technique whereby your entire focus is on your breath. Use this simple method of the 4-7-8 (or Relaxing Breath) exercise while you listen to this 8 Minute Deep Meditation

Exhale completely through your mouth.
Close your mouth and inhale quietly through your nose to a mental count of four.
Hold your breath for a count of seven.
Exhale completely through your mouth, to a count of eight.
This is one breath.

Others ways of eliminating any negative energy holding you back might include:

Looking for ways that make you feel relaxed and content. This could be in exercise, art, dance, walking in nature, yoga, fishing, meeting up with friends, listening to soothing music etc

yoga and exercise are perfect for releasing negative energy

Be sure that you’re treating others as you would have them treat you. If you’re having negative thoughts about others or whether you’re going one step further and verbally insulting or criticizing them, it doesn’t matter. It’s all negative energy that will usually poison you more than them.

Include one or more positive affirmations to your day and repeat as many times as you like, with a genuine feeling of joy as you do so.

“I am open and receptive to all the good and abundance in the universe …Thank you Life!”

This is an extremely popular and powerful one by the late queen of positive affirmations and self care, Louise Hay.

Enjoy the beauty of nature and always remember to take the time out for yourself each day.
