Do you ever feel something is missing in your life?
This void often prompts us to want to fill that emptiness with a relationship, food, shopping, television or some other distracting activity.
Sadly, filling that empty space with short-lived solutions only prolongs our suffering.
I LOVED Oprah Winfrey’s WOW moment at the start of this video that she had when she read a chapter from spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle’s book ‘A New Earth’! She quotes “Human alone is never enough, no matter how hard you try or what you achieve”.
The amazing news is… you have everything inside of you that you need to be happy and you can access this by just being present as Eckhart so perfectly explains in this short 3-minute video.
I know many of you after watching will be asking “but how can I be present? I don’t understand what that means or how that feels”. Try this simple exercise and experience even for just a fleeting moment what it feels like to be present…
Sit down for just a few moments, close your eyes and ask yourself “Can I feel the energy inside my hands, in other words can I feel that my hands are there without touching anything. Can I feel the energy inside my hands? After a little while most people can, there’s a slight tingling or liveness that you can feel when the energy goes in there. Doing this will cause thinking to immediately slow down because it no longer has your whole attention allowing you to be present in that moment.”
My biggest take away from this video has to be that to achieve presence you need an anchor, just like we used the inner body in that simple exercise!
Also meditating daily even for just 10 minutes will assist you in being present.
Pollyanna in the community forum says…
“to become more present in your daily life doesn’t mean you have to spend hours in meditation. With a little daily practice without expectations of what you will experience, you will become aware of the state of meditation. When this happens, it’s important not to begin analyzing how this feels because your mind will try and do this. Just relax into this state and when thoughts intervene, and they will, just focus on your mantra (or meditation technique) until you enter the state again. Boredom is also the exact opposite of being present.
Once you become familiar with this heightened state of awareness, you will find that it will remain with you more and more in your day to day life allowing you to become more present.”
I really hope you find this very short yet insightful video helpful.
Have a wonderful weekend!
