If you ever feel particularly agitated about something… let’s say, a good friend lets you down or you miss out on a great job opportunity or you are experiencing problems in a relationship, anxiety begins to build up and your chatterbox can go into overdrive, pulling you right off center (the place within where there is perfect peace).
When you feel anxious you enter higher beta waves and over-produce the “stress hormone” Cortisol which in turn causes you to feel more stressful and this becomes a vicious circle. Your chatterbox blocks you from the inner peace, the tranquillity, the intuition, the creativity, the love and joy that is within each of us.
When you are calm and relaxed, slower frequencies of brainwaves are produced along with great quantities of healing hormones to optimize your health and happiness.
Remember, the next time you feel anxious how deep breathing promotes relaxation…
Take a deep breath in through your nose, holding it while you count to five, and then slowly exhaling through your mouth. As you exhale, imagine that the stress and tension are slowly draining down your arms and out your fingertips, down your body and legs and out your toes. Repeat the process a second or third time if needed.
Here’s what two great teachers recommend so you can produce slower alpha waves, become centered and enter the peace within…
“Forgive yourself for not being at peace. The moment you completely accept your non-peace, your non-peace is transmuted into peace. Anything you accept fully will get you there, will take you into peace. This is the miracle of surrender” – Eckhart Tolle
“Put on beautiful calming music or a guided meditation and begin to tap into your source of power – that place within. Meditation music really helps you to align faster. Not only does it set the mood and block out extraneous noise, but it also eventually conditions you to relax and feel your power the minute you turn it on.” – Susan Jeffers Ph.D.
When you are centered, it’s easier to see the world through a happier and more peaceful lens. You may experience greater patience and understanding, feelings of kindness and unconditional love toward all beings, unshakeable inner peace and joy that are independent of what is going on around you, and a sense of deeply ‘knowing’ your true nature as a spiritual being: infinite, and eternal.
Loving-kindness meditation is another way to “enter the kingdom within” – because at the core, we are pure love. Tap into that never-ending source of love, let it permeate you, and let it radiate outward toward others!
