Are you aware of the magic of Alpha brain waves? If you aren’t don’t worry this post is going to cover that for you. But, more importantly, we’ll also let you in on just how easy it is to expose yourself to them!

So, sit back, grab a drink or a snack and prepare yourself to be blown away by what neuroscientists continue to discover…

The Incredible Mystery Of Alpha Brain Waves Revealed

Whether through mindfulness and meditation or electrical stimulation (brainwave entrainment), exposing yourself to alpha brain waves increases creative, relaxed and contemplative thinking.get creative by exposure to alpha brain waves

They are also essential for reducing depressive and anxious thoughts.

You may or may not be aware that your brain actually consists of billions of neurons in different regions, using electricity as a way of communication from one to the other. When your synapses are firing in synchrony, they create unified combinations of millions of neurons. These neurons work together harmoniously as a neural network linking to a specific state of consciousness, affecting your thoughts, mood and behavior.

We know that brain waves are divided into five different bandwidths. These are Delta brain waves, Theta brain waves, Alpha brain waves, Beta brain waves and last but not least Gamma brain waves.

These five different bandwidths are believed to create a spectrum of human consciousness and change throughout the day.

They are influenced entirely by what we do, think and feel emotionally, whether we’re awake or asleep.

In short… Delta brain waves are the slowest brain waves and are mostly present when we sleep. Theta brain waves are also present when we sleep and are perfect to expose yourself to in times of creative thinking. They can also be observed in states of deep mediation.

Beta waves typically dominate our normal waking states of consciousness and occur when attention is directed towards cognitive and other tasks. It is the second ‘fastest’ brain wave and is present when we are alert and focused and usually engaging in problem solving, conversation or decision making situations.

Some variations of Beta waves however can result in over thinking, leaving you with feelings of anxiousness, worry or stress.

Enter Alpha brain waves!

Daydreaming is often present when we’re exposed to these slower than Beta brainwaves. Those of which will present themselves when consciously practicing mindfulness or meditation. Alpha brain waves are also super for enhanced learning, more focused research, studying and/or being creative and artistic.

Did you know that the Alpha brainwave state is considered to be the brain’s most normal functioning state?

The problem is, because we’re spending less and less time functioning in Alpha and more and more in Beta, our brains are actually forgetting how to produce Alpha waves.

Let’s look at an example:

wake up to alpha brain waves instead of jumping straight into betaA typical day for most, starts out with waking up from a deep sleep (whereby Delta waves will have predominantly been vibrating) usually with the assistance of the dreaded alarm clock.

Beta waves are extremely quick to kick in as you begin to plan your day ahead, make coffee, dress, wake the kids etc… Oh yeh, about that coffee… did you know that caffeine actually suppresses the relaxing and creative Alpha and Theta brainwaves? 😲

Beta brain waves are typically produced in situations when you’re working on something you’d rather not be. Such as problem solving (most of us don’t relish this), decision making or working in a job we don’t feel stimulated nor inspired by. Sadly, this super busy lifestyle means people are forced from restful Delta into Beta (usually remaining there for much of the day), then back into Delta at the end of another mentally and physically exhausting day, with little room for Alpha and Theta brainwave activity.

We’re living in a world full of rushing here, there and everywhere and we’re vibrating at Beta every waking moment, when what our minds and bodies are being seriously deprived of is time exposed to Alpha brain waves.

The results of this are strikingly obvious, as we see more and more people suffering from stress-related disorders and diseases.

These two critters (anxiety and stress) have a dramatic impact on lowering the strength of your immune system. Serotonin levels are associated with your moods and low serotonin levels are linked to stress, depression and other neurological disorders, such as anxiety and panic attacks.

Generating more Alpha waves however makes you feel less anxious and more relaxed as the harmony between your mind and body is restored. This is so very conducive to relaxed and creative intelligence, resulting in those ‘aha’ moments of compelling new ideas and inspiration.

alpha brain waves in the human brain“Alpha waves in the human brain are between 6 and 8 hertz. The wave frequency of the human cavity resonates between 6 and 8 hertz. All biological systems operate in the same frequency range. The human brain’s alpha waves function in this range and the electrical resonance of the earth is between 6 and 8 hertz. Thus, our entire biological system – the brain and the earth itself – work on the same frequencies. If we can control that resonate system electronically, we can directly control the entire mental system of humankind.”

Here are 2 of the most effective ways of inviting more Alpha brain waves into your daily life, waking up a whole new kind of you.

A little meditation a day keeps stress away:

In 2005, researcher Sara Lazar and others of the Massachusetts General Hospital found meditation actually changed the physical structure of the brain. They also found that the sections of the brain associated with attention, are thicker in those who meditate as opposed to those who don’t. It was determined that the longer one meditates, the greater the density in thickness of these sections. Research also suggests that with age, these sections of the brain which would normally become thinner, with regular meditation can be counteracted.

Emotional balance and mental well being are directly affected and improved by practicing a regular meditation practice and exposing oneself to those essential theta and Alpha brain waves.

Wake Up To Alpha:

Brainwave entrainment (aka whole brain synchronization training) works without any conscious effort on your part. All you need to do is close your eyes and listen. There are now hundreds of audios that can do this but it’s advisable to check them out thoroughly.

Take LifeFlow Audio Technology for example, if you’re looking to summon more Alpha into your life, try waking up tomorrow and listen to this.

Upon pressing play (and listening for 10 – 40 minutes) you’ll find yourself drifting into a peaceful, calm and relaxed state within just a few minutes. It’s delightfully simple and thoroughly beneficial as it gets to work on raising those serotonin levels.

Waking up daily this way for a week or more will leave you noticing some remarkable results.

Some changes in yourself to look for might be feelings of a deeper kind of contentedness, more confidence and belief in yourself and your ideas. ‘Feeling more centered’ is what many of our LifeFlow members report back in the early days.
