Are you constantly trying to figure out how to relieve stress?

Do you suffer regularly from a fast heartbeat, headaches, back pain, sweaty palms or an upset stomach?

Extreme reactions to stress can come in the form of panic attacks and If you’ve ever experienced one personally or know someone who has, you’ll know that they can be very frightening.

There is often no warning or cause and the first thing you’ll feel is a sudden, intense fear or anxiety that may make you feel short of breath, dizzy or even make your heart pound.

Other symptoms of stress might include feeling irritable and unable to deal with even small challenges.
Feelings of anger and frustration are very common, along with worry, overthinking and poor concentration levels.

If you recognise any of these feelings and desperately want to learn once and for all how to relieve stress from today onwards, let the below short story ( author unknown ) inspire you.

May it remind you of a few simple changes that can be made to kick start your new ( and what could be exciting ) year ahead.how to relieve stress the healthy wayA psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they’d be asked the “half empty or half full” question.

Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired:

“How heavy is this glass of water?”

Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz.

She replied,

“The absolute weight doesn’t matter. It depends on how long I hold it.

If I hold it for a minute, it’s not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralyzed.

In each case, the weight of the glass doesn’t change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.”

She Continued,

“The stresses and worries in life are like that glass of water.

Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt.

And if you think about them all day long, you will feel paralysed, incapable of doing anything.”

So, if you really are determined to know how to relieve stress and stop letting the day to day little things get you down, the first thing to realise is that it’s so very important to remember to let go of your stresses.

As early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down.

Don’t carry them through the evening and into the night.

Remember to put the glass down!

For a little more inspiration on how to relieve stress in your daily life, let’s end today’s blog post with just a few of the best quotes we’ve found on the subject.

We’re all individual and if one doesn’t speak to you, another one might.

“The time to relax is when you don’t have time for it.”

~ Sydney J. Harris

“You can’t always control what goes on outside, but you can always control what goes on inside.”

~ Wayne Dyer

“One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was from a horse master. He told me to go slow to go fast. I think that applies to – – – everything in life. We live as though there aren’t enough hours in the day but if we do each thing calmly and carefully we will get it done quicker and with much less stress.”

~ Viggo Mortensen

“Once you accept, truly accept, that stuff will happen to you and there is nothing you can do about it, stress miraculously leaves your life.”

My own personal way of dealing with stress, that set me free, after living with severe depression and anxiety for four years. Is very simple, start the day with a half hour meditation, where once you are calm and relaxed, give thanks for all the wonderful things that you bring to the world. Afterwards, I complete a 12 minute body toning or any other excercise regime you prefer. At the end of the day I make an hour slot to pamper myself such as: taking a hot bath with essential oils, painting my finger and toe nails, performing a self massage etc. Whilst doing these things forget the outside world and concentrate purely on you and enjoy the feelings and experiences. Put to one side all your electronic devices, but don’t forget to set your alarm. Turn the lights down low and read a book till you start to feel tired. Switch out the light and aim to get a good eight hours sleep. Tomorrow when the alarm goes off you will wake up feeling refreshed as if you have just been on vacation. Hope this helps anyone out there stressing at the moment.
