Meditation is like going to the gym. You can’t go once and expect immediate results (you do need a little patience), and yet, many people do.

I hear it all the time: “I didn’t feel anything!” or “Nothing happened!” or “I couldn’t get my mind to shut up!” – and this, after just a day, or a couple of days of practice.

It’s not entirely their fault. We do live in a society that’s all about immediate gratification and fast results. We don’t like to wait, but the reality is, like fine wine, good things take time.

And – the initial part might not be as pleasant as you might expect.

When you want to become lean and fit, you exercise. You’re not going to see results immediately. In fact, it might hurt at first as you make your muscles do things they aren’t used to and in this uncomfortable period it might take willpower to keep exercising. But if you stick with it, you will feel better, look better, and your body will perform better.

When you want to learn a language, you practice speaking and writing. At

The importance of patience and perseverance

first, your pronunciation is awkwardly terrible and you make all kinds of mistakes. But if you stick with it, you will get a feel for the language and its rhythm. You’ll start to enjoy conversing with locals and you’ll feel proud of your efforts when they respond to you in their language and not yours.

When you want to build a business, you create a product or service, and then spend months or even years getting it out into the public’s eye. Some businesses are overnight sensations, but these can be a flash-in-the-pan and disappear as quickly as they came. A real business, with lasting success – the kind of business that becomes a household name – comes from cultivating great relationships, and becoming known for your services, integrity and value… which takes time.

I hope these examples show you the importance of patience and perseverance. Whatever is worth it, is worth waiting for.

“Have Patience With All Things, but, first of all with yourself”. ~ Saint Francis De Sales

That’s not to say that you can’t and won’t experience some benefits immediately, even if you don’t experience stillness, or you feel like your thoughts are out of control the whole time.

With any form of meditative state, technique, intense focus or breathing exercise,  there are some people who do experience “something” remarkably new changes almost immediately. These will be those who practice every or most days of course, if only for 5-10 minutes. Those who have really felt and embraced ‘that’ feeling that’s to be achieved with daily practice will often vow never to give up that part of each day.
The reason it becomes such a precious part of the day is becaause it’s what makes the other massive part of each day so much more wonderful.

It finds you enjoying many more joyful and magical ‘present’ moments throughout the days, weeks and years of your life.

Meditation’s a funny thing though. While some will experiences will be noted and observed in a physical sense straight away, others might be more emotional ( though this usually results in a physical sensation caused through worry or stress, much like butterflies in the belly or deep sinking ache that carries negative feelings with it. ) and in a few days.
One may feel exhilaration. Or peace. Or be flooded with inspiration or the deepest feelings of gratitude. Or feel a tingling in their left fourth toe.

Or, they may feel absolutely nothing. And that’s okay. Just have patience

[IF] as this Greek proverb suggests….
“One minute of patience, ten years of peace.”

Why not give it a try now. You can simply listen using your pc/laptop/Mac or phone right now and then tell us you don’t feel anything at all.
Warning!
Your feedback afterwards however must follow on from “I solemly swear that I did everything I was instructed to do before closing my eyes. IN addition, I had absolutely no expectation of how I would feel during or after listening”.

We’d love to hear about your experience.

If you felt nicely relaxed after listening and that’s all you felt, then fabulous – you got to enjoy and benefit from some much needed relaxation time for a short while and your body and mind noticed it very much and definitely appreciated it. They’ve enjoyed it that much that chemical reactions within the mind and body triggered after just moments of pressing play whilst working towards positive changes in neural pathways.

If you felt agitated or guilty while you were meditating, but you stuck with it for the duration, then congratulations – you showed discipline, which will improve and reward you as you continue with your daily listening.

If you don’t feel you can sit through the whole deep meditation download, then don’t worry ( but notice the resistance ) about losing out, you will still benefit from even half the time!
Building ‘awareness’ of your resistance to it, gives you the power to overcome the resistance so that you can ‘cultivate’ what will be the most beneficial habit you will ever adopt.

If you stick with it, meditation will change your life. Please remember that habits take time to establish though, and that new neural connections take time to form. Your ways of thinking will change, but not overnight. Your ways of perceiving the world will change but there’s a lot to the world. There are a lot of beliefs about the world, you, and your place in it and it takes time to change those beliefs so that they support you instead of hinder you.

It takes time ( if only 5-10 minutes a day of daily listening ) to master the mind, to where it serves you and doesn’t own you.

So relax. Savor the process and above all else, have patience. It’s FUN to be a beginner when everything is new and filled with potential.

Absorb it all like a sponge. Enjoy getting to know yourself better. There’s no rush. Meditation isn’t a contest about who will become enlightened first. You can’t win at meditation. You can’t skip any steps to get there faster (where?). But, you can allow yourself to become present, joyful and at peace… If you don’t expect instant results.
