Default A type of meditation?

Ok, i dont know much about meditation.. and since joining.. ive honestly only had time for my first session ( following the disks) and i read something about using beads to keep concentrated?

Can anyone explain this more.. or give me a link to a website that will..

And i was thinking a more modern view to it.. 'cause my mum just recently got a ''Quit Kit'' from the NHS.. and this thing came in it for stress.. but i though due to its flexibility it'd help you.. it really does help me if im stressed

Just thought that'd be better than beads for some people, what'd you say?

Tangle Creations, Tangle Toys

Is the link to them..

~Thanks in advance!!
Sam

I think you are referring to mala beads

Buddhist prayer beads - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are many techniques for meditation. The meditation provided on the Discover meditation downloads from this site are called Mantra meditation and is the same technique as Transcendental Meditation. It doesn't really require any other tools to make it work, but if you find something else helps you to meditate then by all means go for it.

Default Eft

I just wanted to share what I use for meditation. Since I started LOA, I have been using the EFT or the emotional freedom technique, I always use this to cast away my worries and to be able to manifest claerly want I want to happen everyday and so far it is working.

You're not alone. There are many on here who use EFT or similar techniques to help themselves (and others in some cases). Glad to hear that it's helping you.

Cool Mala Beads, Worry Beads...or just a cool necklace..

Hello Enuf,

I am not into Sensei worship so I tend to learn then apply, then see how it works for me,not follow blindly, something the Buddha recommended. In the case of discover meditation and life flow, I am content but like the weather, life can be unpredictable thus its wise to have other options or means to augment ones practice when needed, Mala beads are one such add on I have come to enjoy from time to time.

Mala beads, 108 of them are in terms of the number, superstition and to some science, you can choose to see significance in the number or ignore. It has been used by Hindu's for 1000's of years and out of this culture, arose Buddhism....along with it the beads, why; they work. They work so well in fact that you will find similar devices in Islam and Catholicism ( early traders in the east liked the idea and spread this practice to their own cultures ).

For many it is a counting device ( say 10 Mantra's and call me in the morning sort of thing ) but its interesting feature is that your figitiness can be incorporated into your meditation practice, your doing something and this doing is linked to your practice; it can be very effective to focus oneself or very distracting if your beads hook, tangle or you skip one, its up to the user.

I use mine sometimes when I cant settle down, I have come to learn how long it takes me to get around the 108 beads and therefore its a nice means of telling time when using a mantra without Life Flow or left toe up right nostril, what ever works.

Like anything its a tool, to be used when and if it suits the job, if you cant keep focus for long periods, or are figitty, beads can be very useful but you shouldn't depend on them.

Dont take anyones word for it, give it a go, see how it pans out for you, one word of advice if you are choosing some, fiddle with them, the beads can be anything from glass to wood to bone ( and engine parts probably somewhere in the world )...its important to choose one with a bead size and weight that works well for your fingers, otherwise it will drive you nuts or make your hand cramp trying to manipulate micro beads.....thats about all other than a design that pleases you ( like thats going to matter when your eyes are closed but HEY, your paying for them, so you may as well like them. )

One recommendation given on the meditation course I attended many moons ago (where we tried out lots of different types of meditation from around the world) was to create your own string of mala beads, and to focus as you strung on each bead, giving each one a particular memory (happy or sad) from your life so far. This made the string of beads person to yourself and allowed you to help recognise that all these things in your life are not really you, but things you are attached to and you can pass over them easily as you meditate, just as you can pass over them in real life if you choose.

It is a technique that was created by a chap called Gary Craig, who has now retired, along with his website, though the EFT community in the world is so large that he generously allowed a few dedicated EFTers to take over a lot of the content of his website and create a new one of their own from it...

EFTUniverse.com

The one thing Gary didn't pass over was his free EFT manual, though the people who took it over have created their own version which is also free...

It's a wonderful technique and very effective at removing 'issues'. Based on the concept that the cause of all negative emotions (which includes physical and mental issues, as they are seen as caused by emotions) is a disruption in the body's energy system, the EFT technique works to 'straighten up' the energy system and thus eradicate the negative emotions behind the issues. It doesn't get rid of memories, but certainly removes the feelings behind it. The first time I used it myself was on my spider phobia, and it was an odd sensation at first as I could no longer feel that fear that had always been there.

Would definitely recommend taking a look at it.

Hugs
