Default a serious question about meditation

is it possible to once your spirit leaves your body in [astral trance] to get pulled back into your body to fast and feel like it came back in in a mili second?

im asking this because this happened to me i accually felt like i experienced an uknown emotion i was scared. what happened was well i group meditate in my school its a small school wich im very lucky to be able to do so] but we only meditate for up to 30 min at the most every morning and once the instructor starts getting ppl to become physically consious if there is some one that fell asleep they tap them well i decided to get really deep into it and saw my spirit leave my body and travel so many places so fast and in my form of meditation the bad things we release are still floating around us until we come back slow without them. well some kid thought i was asleep and slapped me in the head hard and i woke up scared shivering and had a tear going down my face idk what happened exactly can someone tell me if possible? please and thank anyone who can tell me

Sounds like it might be Astral Catalypsy, which is where your spirit is out, during sleep or astral travel, but something jolts your body awake and it becomes aware that your spirit isn't in it. It interprets that as being dead. So for a brief moment, the body tries to move, but can't without the animating presence of the spirit. Once the spirit gets back in, then things get back to normal. It's not an uncommon occurrence.

Hi Zeroordie
Seems to me that meditating in this way, in a group, is putting you into a vulnerable position. Group energy can be powerful and often unbalanced, especially if others can touch you when you're in a deep state.

Are you grounding yourself to earth energy? Do you wrap yourself in a protective cocoon of divine white light? Doing so can protect you from scattered, unbalanced energies and keep you centered. You can imagine yourself rooted into the warm, loving embrace of Mother earth's core, and picture warm, golden sunlight streaming down upon you bringing you safety, comfort and ease. Then you can open to your own heart center which is linked to All Life - the Divine Essence...or you can say a mantra like in the free instructions in this website.

It would be good for you to go slowly and gently, feeling your way into your meditation practice! And I think you would enjoy exploring the free downloads in this site.

Wishing you peace and love

Bhavya

I have heard of people say they have had similar experiences. Whether its true or not, it certainly seems plausible. As Bhavya said, you need to make sure you go slowly and gently, feel your heart beat slow inside you. Feel almost as if you're about to go to sleep. Relaxation is key to a successful meditation and i find that in groups you may be aware of other people and it could affect your concentration.

One thing to add. This isn't really a suggestion and should be moved into the Meditation Chatter Box.

I have no experience what so ever with astral projection, but I do know that there are some basic things wrong with the meditation itself as described.

Slapping you awake like you describe, is something that comes only from Zen.
Zen will never allow people to try astral projection, it is a form that is after the ultimate truth, much the same way Vipassana does, only from a different angle.

In Zen, when you start to feel drowsy or sleepy, you can move your head to one side, after which an experienced person monitoring the meditators can give a slap in the neck.

They sometimes also do another thing when they suspect you to be asleep, and they watch this by looking at the hands ( the standard meditation posture is right hand placed in left hand in a bowl kind of shape, thumbs touching ) when the thumbs don't touch anymore, they don't slap, but give a gentle push against the shoulder. You see, they won't expect anything, so a slap ( which triggers adrenaline and/or stress hormones when performed unexpectedly ) would be very bad for meditation itself. You might even make your entire meditation session useless, and it may take away your trust in the group, so your meditation won't work anymore because you can't relax physically.

Are you sure your group has done sufficient research ? Is there anyone there with years of meditation experience ?

What form of meditation do you guys practice anyway ?
