I've recently invested my time in learning how to meditate and came across life flow. I understand what I need to do and have started to see some positive effects from the tutorials. I currently do not have over the ears headphones so I've been using my klipsch thx computer speakers. But my question is how loud should I be listening to the tracks when using computer speakers? I'm still on track 10 and meditating as it plays but is the constant bass part of the sounds that should be playing? I'm experiencing anxiety and feel I may be playing it too loud because the bass is overwhelming. I'm looking for some advice and guidance, thank you.

    Hi JohnDo.....

Welcome to the PM community forum and as you may know, LifeFlow uses 3 audio technologies. Binaural, Monaural and Isochronic tones.

Only one of these: Binaural require you to use headphones to benefit. The other 2 technologies do not require headphones to work and you will experience a very potent meditation experience without headphones.

We recommend that you listen both ways to gain maximum beneficial results. Alternate between the two.

However, that being said, many people prefer not to have to be tied down to using headphones and just listen over open speakers and still get great results. You just need to remember that if you choose this method alone, you will not experience the benefits of all 3 sound technologies. Just the Isochronic and Monaural tones.

When you meditate with LifeFlow all the work is done by the entrainment waves which are inaudible to you, or nearly so. The masking soundscape, be it sounds of nature, music, or just melodic sounds such as those developed for Creative Flow, are nothing more than "user's personal preference". You can turn the volume very low and you will still gain the entrainment effects.

You do however need to make sure you playing without extra filters (Bass, treble, dolby etc) as these should all be switched off.

Most headphones have a frequency range of 20Hz to 20,000Hz or even 22,000Hz. So, when you are purchasing your headphones, just make sure they go as low as 20Hz and you will be just fine.

Hope this helps and we look forward to hearing how you get on. :)

How many minutes a day should I be listening?

    Hi everyone!

I started using CD 10 yesterday and just wanted to ask people how many minutes I should be listening in total. The CD is 40 Minutes long, is that enough to start with on a daily basis? and if I only want to do 20 minutes can I skip the first 20 mins? Also I'm using in the morning, is this a good time of day?

    Thanks for your advice :)

Hi there Barbsh, apologies for missing your question and welcome to the community. 40 minutes is great to use on a daily basis and if you only have 20minutes, yes, you can skip the first or last 20 minutes. Because meditation is cumulative, just a few minutes a day will bring great benefits over time.

Initially, it takes about 8 minutes to entrain to the intended state, however, the more proficient you become at entering a state of meditation, the more rapidly you reach your target state, with or without the entrainment aid of LifeFlow.

Michael states "When this is the case, what the entrainment track does in addition to setting up the initial condition that allowed you to go into Alpha, is to help you remain in Alpha more consistently and for longer periods than you otherwise might.

For example, it rarely takes me more than a few moments to enter into a meditative state without assistance from LifeFlow, but I use the tracks anyway because they help "stabilize" my meditation at the level I choose.

Advice to you if you only have a few minutes to devote to meditation is there are still benefits to be gained that you will not want to miss out on especially when you are able to enter into meditation more and more quickly on your own as this will enhance your practise.

Listening to LifeFlow while simply relaxing can improve your experience of relaxation, which in turn can improve your sense of well-being, diminish stress, improve immune system function and have a host of other beneficial effects."

Hope this is of help and I wish you an abundance of peace and joy :) :) :)

    Thank Pollyanna

    Hi PollyAnna,

Thanks for your advice, just wondering how long you have been using Lifeflow or meditating in general? I'm completely new to this and found the first week of CD 10 greatly benefical. Now on the second week and fitting in the whole 40 minutes. I feel very flat, almost numb this week and have extremely bad feelings of anger and irritation. What's this about? I have read many posts on tis forum which all explain similar feelings but just wanted to confirm this for myself. Do I continue what I'm doing, does this subside and what's the time lenght for this to happen in general?

    Thanks in advance,
    Barbara

    Hi Barbara,

Yes, feelings/emotions will arise as a result of doing meditation, some of them positive and some negative. Consider the meditation as a means of releasing things that have been held in. The key is to recognise that those feelings are arising (which you have done so that's good) and accept that they are there, and make a choice to let those feelings go. Recognise that they are feelings from the past, and not really related to what is happening in the present moment and they have no place here and now and you can make that choice to let them go.

Some people suggest a method of actually putting your full focus on the feeling and keep it there... and then you will find that the feeling just dissapears all by itself because bringing the feeling into the present moment of focus means that it can no longer exist (it has no place in the present).

Give it a go and see how you get on. However, if you feel that you've jumped in with too long a time in meditation too early, then perhaps just cut back a little too and see if things improve and gradually work the time back up again later. After all, there's no rush to this meditation lark, just take it as it comes.

    Hugs

    Giles

Thanks Giles, I've cut back from 40 minutes daily to 15 and noticed a difference almost immmediately. Think I may have just rushed it a bit so happy out now.

Thanks for your advice and will keep you updated on progress..

    Barbara :))

    Hi Barbara,

I have been meditating with LifeFlow for over 4 years now, although I had tried some other ways for a number of years prior to that.

With LifeFlow I noticed changes in my daily life and looking back, I realise it has been an awareness/revealing/accepting/releasing process. In truth, it's simply coming back to such a natural state that has always been there, as though I had been walking round in a mist which has lifted :)

Giles has given you great advice and I am glad it has helped you. Here are a few examples from my personal experiences of releasing negative emotions. As you become aware of negative emotions like anger and irritation, just accept them, even welcome them - don't get carried away with the thoughts which accompany them. Be aware of the feeling/sensation in your body - this may be a tightening in your stomach or shoulders etc. I simply welcomed the sensation and curiously asked it where it was coming from, observing it with a childlike curiosity. The thoughts belong to the past or the future, the sensation belongs to the present moment. As you observe the sensation, it will gradually dissipate - for me, this has taken as little as a few minutes to what seemed like half an hour. Each time I have observed the sensation going away, a realisation of abandonment, betrayal etc. has come to mind and I have realised that I have released these negative emotions.

When I first began meditating with LifeFlow, I used to fall asleep sometimes. Other times I would experience some wonderful, deep peaceful awareness - sometimes my mind seemed busy and some meditations just seemed restful yet uneventful. I just accepted whatever happened and treated it as a well deserved rest.

Big Negative emotions usually surfaced through dreams for me (albeit only 4 or 5 in the course of 4 years) When I released these emotions, I knew I had let something huge go and it was very freeing.

In the early days, if someone said or did something to me which I would have normally reacted to, I became aware and seemed to understand the other persons perspective more and found no need to react to them - at the time, this was quite a revelation to me :)

It's really quite difficult to explain, I hope you can understand a little of what I am trying to explain - once you learn to release all this hindering stuff, there is so much space to really live and enjoy each moment - it feels a bit like Atlas releasing the weight of the world off his shoulders.

It's no wonder you sleep better, have more energy, solve problems which seemed impossible because you simply become free of all the stuff that hampered you down :)

I began what has proven to be an incredible journey four years ago and I look forward to hearing of your success very soon. I wish you an abundance of peace and joy :) :) :)

Thank you too, Pollyanna, Yes things are moving on, we are now in our 3rd house, renting this time, after losing the last 2. Business has suffered, but hey! we are safe, well and warm, can't really ask for more.

900 buildings have gone from the CBD area, and approx 10,000 homes. it's amazing that the tragic loss of life was minimal. :(

We have all become Seismologists :) and can now accurately guess the size of the shakes. over 5,000 since Sept, usually in the range between 3 & 5 magnitude, sometime 10+ a day So we fear nature has not finished yet

    Peace :)
