Default Learning the power

Background: I started meditating about two years ago. I had listened to a Wayne Dyer tape on how he meditated, so I tried that. I picked my image of a cove in Hawaii, blue sky, blue water, green palm trees. I would focus on this image to shut out all thoughts. Worked for about six months. Then I couldn't see colors, so stopped meditating. Took it up again with this course.

Discover Meditation allowed me to easily get into a meditative state. I began about 45 days ago, and meditate at least once a day. One thing that I've discovered is that we have an enormous amount of power. Here is an example of what I mean.

I get "white coat syndrome" when I go to the doctor. This means that my blood pressure artificially elevates when a "white coat" takes my blood pressure. I've had readings as high as 170/100 at the doctor's office. My BP is normally in the 120s for systolic, and 70s or low 80s for diastolic. (I've been able to lower my pulse for many years and usually have a resting heart beat of 55-65.)

I take my BP at home from time to time to create a record for the doctor so they don't put me on BP medicine. Sometimes when I take it, the first reading is a bit high (I guess I just don't like taking the "test.")

The other day, I took my BP. It was 144/89. I decided that instead of taking another reading to see what random numbers generated, I would decide what I wanted my BP to be. I closed my eyes and tried to invoke the alpha state for a minute or two.

I told myself that the numbers would be 117/75. I succeeded in half of this. My reading was 117/91. It blew my mind that the systolic reading came back EXACTLY what I wanted it to be. Now I just have to practice with the diastolic.

Default the power in everyone

Hi penny if there is two things which meditation does do superbly it is to lower blood pressure and your pulse,

There are millions of ways you can do this purely through relaxation; probably my favorite method would be part of a guided meditation by Deepak chopra,

Once you have allowed yourself to become comfortable and without distractions
Just take a few breaths to relax then just put your intention on your heart
Either visualize your heart beating or listen for the sound of your heart

You will find with practice this does become easier
Then after a few minutes doing this listening or visualizing your heart
just say in your mind ... slow down ... slow down
When you say these 2 words say them quite slowly and very importantly have the intention of slowing down your heart beat as you say them.

The first time I tried this I was absolutely amazed as after just a few seconds I could not only hear my heart beating but I felt it slowing after only a few seconds.

Why not try it while listening to some quiet relaxing music you may be as amazed as I was.

I have often in the past meditated for pain relief and I really do honestly believe that there are many illness and ailments which could be cured through meditation alone if only the medical profession would wake up to the fact.

Best wishes
Gary

Thanks, Gary.

I know what you mean about alternate cures and healing. I have osteoarthritis in my right hip and sometimes, when I do too much, I feel referred pain in my right knee. I started doing this imagery where, when my knee hurts. I see myself standing in my bedroom, and I focus white energy on my knee. The pain stops almost immediately. After I did this five or six times, I realized that I rarely have the knee pain anymore.

I have been doing the same procedure on my hip, but feel that I've made less progress. Perhaps because the project is a much bigger one.

I have also been working on letting go of the "label," releasing the idea of defining who I am by my dis-ease.
