LifeFlow meditation really helped me
I am a man of 73 (next month!) years of age. I had a difficult childhood with 12 years of boarding school and being kicked out of my family home at the age of 13. I tell you this because it has a bearing on where I am now. I became a very intense young man believing that the best philosophy in life was to know that all people, (friends, family and strangers) will at some time in your relationship let you down. So if you are prepared for the onslaught with this belief, the landing will be softer. The trouble with this approach was that the older I got, the more bitter and angry I became. I suppose you could say that I was my own worst enemy.
The word 'relax' was foreign in my dictionary, but I did realise that I needed something to help me relax - and I don't mean drugs. Thirty years ago I went on a course in transcendental meditation. Then I practised it for a year. It did help me in the beginning, but it was very slow to feel any major breakthroughs and I felt that my forward progress was slipping backwards, so I stopped. I am not decrying transcendental meditation - the problem could have been me and the way I did it.
I have searched over the years for a better methodology to release me from this anger and bitterness and have tried many things - some better than others. Then, earlier this year, I came across LifeFlow and I have been doing LifeFlow meditation for five months now.
The first thing that impressed me about lifeFlow was that after only one month I was starting to feel less angry and aggressive. The sounds from the media I received were soothing, like listening to shallow water flowing fast over pebbles. After three months I could physically feel my shoulders drop - like a few inches - within minutes of starting LifeFlow. And now today, after five months, the terrible anger that had gnawed at my core for so many years, has subsided to manageable levels. I don't react bitterly to the slightest provocation any more - I am actually able to shrug many bad moments off without erupting.
I know that this posting is rather long, but to appreciate how much benefit I have gained from LifeFlow meditation, you needed to know some of the background. I would encourage any newcomer to LifeFlow to go for it with the knowledge that it works - it did for me.
Cheers for now.

That's a wonderful, inspiring story. Perhaps I'll complement that with my own extremities.
I, my self, am only 16 (two months ago), and as I said in another thread, it always makes me feel naive to say anything to anyone who knows my age and doesn't know me.
Most of my friends are actually more like my disciples, since most of them consider me the smartest and wisest person they know, though I'm sure I'm not the smartest. I'm just a "jack-of-all-trades" so to speak.
I have only been using LifeFlow for a week, since I began after I joined this community, and have ony been meditating daily for about a month.
Even so, I feel immensely calm, and even wiser than I used to be, (which seems to be climbing a ladder two rungs too far ) I have always been a teacher to my peers, from the time I was six, and that has continued to this day. Many people come to me for advice or knowledge, and always have....But I suppose that's enough about me.
It's wonderful to hear the "long-term" effects of LifeFlow again. Five months, I know, but if it can have such a drastic effect on me in a week--I who used to be clinically depressed because of my suffering, but now see it as the chart to the path I have chosen, and am happier than anyone can hope to be--I can hardly imagine its effects in twelve times that!
Best wishes.

Thanks for sharing Neil
Your story is great to read. It's stories like yours that make this all worthwhile!
For new members: If you're in doubt about what meditation/entrainment can do in your life.. Here's another great success to inspire you.
Neil, it only gets better and better as you continue to practice.
Well done,
Michael

Wow, what a fantastic story Neil. Great to get to know you more. I am so pleased for you. I once read "with every experience you either become bitter or better. So glad you chose the latter. Long life, happiness and joy to you

Funny. I've always had the same attitude towards people. I have severe trust issues that still need work, but again, (and I hate to belabour a point), recognizing peoples' actions as part of their journey really helps to quell the anger and distrust.
When we look at people and their behavior like that, we tend not to take it to heart and I suspect that that's where the root of the anger comes from. If we take stuff like this personally, then we are perceiving their actions as an assault on ourselves. Regardless of the intention, it's how we act or "react" that determines whether or not it's an affront or not. We choose. It's a very "freeing" attitude.
Thank you for sharing and congratulations. It sounds like you've been doing a lot of work. Wendy

Neil!
Yours was not a long post. Feel free to write as lengthy as it takes... I enjoyed reading every word! I am so happy to hear your story. Thank you for stepping forward and sharing. As you can see already, you are touching many people.
Keep at it! And please keep us posted on your journey. I personally would love to hear more about your physical response. I began meditating in my twenties, so the physical aspect was subtle to me. I find this side of things fascinating.
Much Peace and Love,
Julie

Hi Wendy
Thanks for your kind comments.
I also still have severe trust problems, but not nearly as bad as they were. The trouble with inner anger is that it easily turns from 'anger' mode into 'poor me' mode and then goes into a downward spiral. This is where I have gained greatly from LifeFlow meditation. I can now kick 'poor me' mode out very swiftly and I know its happening immediately it starts, so I don't have the downward spiral. trust is something we all have to earn - it doesn't just happen. But there are of course, some people who trust all others and then, if they are let down, they feel little pain. Lucky them.

Thank you Julia for your kind words.
I went into LifeFlow meditation without pre-conceived ideas. I had tried many self improvement ideas and some of them worked quite well but others were one day wonders. LifeFlow was different. When I was a kid, I lived in Livingstone, seven miles from the Victoria Falls. I often cycled down to the Zambesi river on my own and sat on the bank watching the swift flow of water as it rushed across the pebbles at the waters edge. It was a sound that made me feel relaxed at the time. Well, when I first started LifeFlow, I again heard similar sounds in the first level 10. This immediately enabled me to drop my shoulders and relax and I knew that it was for me. The sounds were soothing without inducing sleep as I was always fully awake and aware of what I was doing. It was a great start.
Cheers for now.

I have also noticed, that with meditation, one has the ability to "step out" of the picture and become an observer, rather than a participant. This not only helps with my interpretation of a person's actions, but it also improves my responses, and that, in turn, makes a difference in people's responses to me. I know I must sound like I'm talking in circles, but try it. You'll walk away chuckling.
I hope you have much peace, prosperity and health in 2008. A very happy New Year to you, Neil. -Wendy
