The Fruits of Heaven - from Sufi Tales

There once was a woman who had heard of the Fruit of Heaven. She coveted it and passed thirty-two years in her search. Finally she asked a certain djinn, whom we shall call Sabar: "How can I find this fruit?"
"You would be best to leave that food to another," said the djinn, "for to taste its meat you must first suck out its nectar."
She did as she was told, left Sabar and sought another tree, and another djinn, and yet another tree and djinn, and many more djinns and trees in succession.
Finally At long last she returned to the garden. There stood the Tree of Heaven, and from its branches hung the bright Fruit of Heaven. Standing beside the tree was Sabar, the first djinn.
"Why did you not tell me when we first met that you were the custodian of the Fruit of Heaven?" she asked the djinn.
"Because," replied Sabar, "you would not have then believed me. If spiritual enlightenment was all there was to it, the revelation could be accomplished in a second. The years of study and discipline are necessary in order to survive that momentary interval between the lifting of the veil and the settling of it back into its place."
The djinn walked away and was not afterward anywhere to be found...
