I do believe i started to get into this state after about 6-7 months or so of practice but i was practicing all the time. And i mean practicing ALL THE TIME. since meditation isnt just sitting and breathing while working with your chakras and energy systems, but is more of just being focused on a single task at a time. the more you can focus on a single task without thoughts distracting from it, the better and more effective your actual sit-down meditations will be.
You first have to learn to quiet your mind entirely for more than just meditation. i only reached this point after i had learned to go without having to think at all but could function just as well if not better. this in turn heightens your awareness far more than you can imagine. So throughout the normal day as your mind is occupied of thoughts and what you are going to do later and so on, you can relate that amount of awareness to the force of a shotgun. yes up close you can seemingly focus on a lot of things well enough, with enough 'force', and you think you get more done. But if you cut out those pesky thoughts entirely and focused only on the present, only on exactly what you were doing at that second, its like refining that spray of that shotgun and concentrating that blast smaller and smaller into a fine pinpoint which acts more like a high powered rifle which travels a faaaaaaaaaaaaar greater distance than a shotgun would.
now we trick ourselves into thinking that if we think and plan about what we will do later and how to resolve other situations that we will get it resolved better and faster. This is not true. thinking about it isnt going to put you in the position to solve that problem or complete that idea right that second, and because you are thinking about one thing, your work that you are currently performing suffers. When you are always focusing on one thing at a time without having to think about it, you are able to act on spiritual impressions and promptings more easily since your mind isnt cluttered with thoughts.
i had my regular time for meditation at the end of the day but throughout the rest of the day i was continuously focusing on only one thing at a time and trying to convert 'thought words' into feelings and impressions. Its kinda like taking our mortal communication and refining it into a more spiritual form of communication. Spirits communicate in a much faster and more perfect way that can be equated to summing up a whole paragraph of knowledge into a single impression. These impressions are a much more pure and reliable form of communication than the way we communicate with eachother. So as you focus on turning these thoughts into impressions, you also get better at recieving and acting upon other impressions your recieve from others and are in turn able to "feel" how they feel and what their disposition is and resolve whatever challenge or problem you face at thaty moment. things become easier and you become more peaceful.
The way i started doing this was for example, if you were thinking "i want to do this." i would try to condense the words in my mind almost as if they were being blended together with just the basic sounds but without lossing any of the meaning to the words. so it would then kinda come out to iantootis. now i understand it sounds kinda unintelligent but i continue to condense them into what in muy head sounds almost like a grunt or a one sylable sound that still has the full meaning of the sentance, and then condense it even further into a sort of feeling or impression without any sound at all. So that it is almost like hearing a desire. that is the nature of an impression. its more like a desire or idea, however big it may be, condensed into a form of thought-feeling which often pop into our heads like an idea.
it was after working on that specifically and being able to do it for about 2-3 months that this amazing experience happened to me during my meditation session. It really does just depend on how much effort you put in. I do not know the extend of self control and will power that you already have so it could happen as quickly or possibly even faster than it did for me. And its not like this "ugh ive gotta wait and get through this part to enjoy this part later" kinda thing, because the whole process was really cool and life changing in itself. i was able to be calm and peacable in whatever situation i was in, even while i was at work under what should have been enormous pressure while being yelled at by angry customers. I didnt care because i was stress free. all i wanted was to help these people out to the best of my abilioty and their anger or whatever stress they were feeling completely passed by me and i was unaffected and was able even to pass mty own possitive energy into them. i could see it in all their faces as i finished working with each of them.
sorry for the long reply. i just like to be able to help multiple people at once with a single answer! i hope you have a great day!
