Default Turning Head during Meditation

Hello,

I practise meditation (observing my breathflow) every day for minimun a half hour since 4-5 months. In the last time I often made the experience that my head is turning. (For example to the right side.) So, did anybody had the same experience? It is like my head is turning without my will, I could put pressure against the movement, but I thought during meditation I should try to not want anything and just focus on my breathing. Its also turning back to the middle, at the first occuring of this experience I thought it is just a inner impression, but in fact it really happen. Im used to this, but I would like to know how to handle it. Is this an obstacle for improving my practise? Any experiences?

regards bobby

(p.s. excuse my bad english im not a native speaker, I am working on it. )

Hi Bobby and welcome to the Project Meditation Community,

Nothing wrong with your English, you speak better than some English people do

Involuntary movements during meditation are quite normal, whether it's the body moving and settling, a limb moving slightly or some muscle twitches etc. It's nothing to be concerned about and just your body doing it's natural thing as you're meditating, so just put your focus back on your meditation.

Hugs

Giles

I remember all the things my body would do beyond what the mind could control. It tried everything to occupy itself before it became accustomed to being present.

How are you meditating? Sitting, lying walking?

Hello,

I am sitting, very standard I guess. But what I would like to know is, if I should follow the movements or should I focus on not-moving at all?

Just let what happens happen. If you try and stop the movement, your focus is being distracted away from the meditation. A movement of body is no different from the movement of mind whilst meditating... you can be aware of it happening, but there is no need to attach to it and let it become a distraction.

Hugs

Giles
