Default Some guidance for a newbie

Hi everyone!

I'm pretty new to the meditation fold and just wanted to get some feedback on my experiences so I know if I'm on the right track.

I recently went through a period of anxiety which brought on a few panic attacks. This caused me to evaluate my life and way of thinking and in retrospect I found that I probably always have been anxious and caught up in my thoughts to some (exorbitant) degree. Which led me to giving meditation ago.

Anyways, I've only really been practicing for around a month and only regularly committed to it for say the last week or two. I've been using the Lifeflow sample, which I play simultaneously with a guided mindfulness meditation by Jon Kabat-Zinn (The original Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction one).

Long story short, since adding the Lifeflow sample, my experience has been a little different. I wouldn't call it falling asleep exactly, as I'm certainly aware of the dream like things going on at the time, even though I can't remember afterwards. I seem to slip in and out of this dream like state, between it and drawing my attention to areas of my body as the track states to do. Also, I don't seem to 'wake up' per se, that is to say it doesn't feel like waking up inthe conventional sense and I always become conscious again (for want of a better explanation) when the track ends.

Is this an indication that I'm on the right track or should I change my technique? It's only been such a short while, and I do feel some benefits/changes, however it's probably too early to say so with any conviction.

Many thanks for any help or guidance!

Hi Shields,

Id say thats perfectly normal. Try not to fall asleep, so you can focus on your mantra/breathing, but if it happens its ok. If you get aware of it, try to easily come
back to your mantra/meditation again, but dont force anything.

My experience is, that when im emotionally blocked, im falling away more often asleep when meditating with lifeflow, then when im clear minded. I guess thats somehow a mechanic from the mind to shut itself partly down when its overwhelmed, but thats just my theory.
