Default Using more than one meditation technique

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum and I would love to get some feedback on a change that has come up in my meditation practice.

For the past few years, every day, I have been doing a mantra meditation technique(very similar to transcendental meditation) for fifteen minutes in the morning and fifteen minutes in the evening. I have really enjoyed that technique but I have also recently been introduced to a different meditation technique that is more imagery oriented. I am having different but very powerful experiences with this other technique, and I like it so much that I would like to incorporate it into my daily meditation routine.

I wouldn't do both techniques within the same session, but I am curious if there is anything unproductive or imbalanced about doing one technique in the morning and the second one in the evening. If I am going to do this, I'm also curious if I should designate a specific one for my morning session and a specific one for my evening session. Maybe it would be better to rotate them so that I'm giving equal attention to both techniques but not always doing the same ones in the morning and evening. I'm not really sure what would be best. Perhaps I am just splitting hairs and should just do whatever feels right on a given session.

I'd love to hear what you guys think though. I'm particularly curious to hear from anyone else on this forum who uses multiple meditation techniques.
Thanks a lot for reading my post. I hope I didn't ramble too much.

George

Hi George,

If you're happy that you benefit from mantra meditation then it's fine to use another technique to see if that has any other benefits for you. Typically people struggle when they're new to meditation and try a mixture of techniques, because then they don't really know which ones are providing the benefits they get.

Hugs

Giles
