Default Feelings of overwhelming energy

Greetings, first let me say I am aware one is not to put too much stock into the various sensations experienced while meditateing, however I have a question. Every so often I feel a very strong surge of energy rising from my stomach thru my chest that almost feels like if it were to get stronger I might explode( please feel free to laugh now). It happened today combined with a bubbly feel to it(feel free to laugh again). Anyway there isn't anyone else for me to ask about such a thing so I'm just throwing it out there. If you answer thank you for taking the time Steve

Hi Steve, I occasionally experience the same sensations. I don't find them threatening and they only last a moment, but I too would love a scientific explanation for them.
Regards
Rose

Thankyou Pollyanna, I have now read it thoroughly and probably will need to re read a few times for it all to sink in. I neglected to mention that I experienced this "phenomena" without entrainment, before I started using Lifeflow. It just happens now and then with or without Lifeflow. I'm just curious why and how from a physical point. Good point that Ta-tsu-wa makes... about Pavlov and expectations. If for some reason I have "conditioned" myself to expect the sensation, how do I undo it? Did I expect something when I very first started meditating? Maybe because at the time I was in a Spiritual Development Group. It's not unpleasant, and I don't consider I have had any less of a meditation session if I don't experience it. Just some thoughts.
Hope you have found it helpful too Steve.
Kind regards, Rose

Hi again Rose,
I believe we all have individual meditation experiences and it's quite normal to feel a whole variety of sensations during meditation.
This simply means that you are becoming more aware of your inner self on a conscious level.

If I can find you any more info I will post it here or maybe someone else may relate with this specific question more than I can. Until then I wish you much peace and joy

Thankyou again Pollyanna for posting. In my heart I know its a normal response for me at least. Maybe one day science can explain these things, as well as they do the benefits of meditation, which I am now beginning to feel .... again.... after my long break.
Kind regards to all
rose

Default Give this a thought...

Hey Steve...interesting reaction to the audio. In my searching and meditative practice I have learned what you are feeling is a surge or Kundalini, or Chi, or life force energy (call it what ever you would like). This energy 'pools' in the area around your navel and travels up the spine, eventually out the top of your head and recycles into your bodies energy field.

If and when it happens, my experience tells me to breath through the sensation, and watch what happens inside your body. I know when I started working with my bodies energies 10+ years ago I would get the sensation of flowering in my body....strange I know! It has been referred to as "running your energy"

You can find plenty of materials online or in hard copy in regards to this energy. Key words to check out are Qigong and/or Kundalini.

Good luck,

JP

A better search term is perhaps "Kundalini Rising" as that is the full name given to it. The energy builds up around the root chakra (between the legs at the base of the spine) and then rises up the spine out of the crown chakra. People experience various intensities of Kundalini Rising throughout their lives, and various energy practices (Qigong as you mention, and others) can be used to intensify or change the experience.

Hugs

Giles
