Default Pins and needles whilst meditating

Hello everybody,

I am relatively new to meditation, and have been finding that just 15 minutes in a morning can have such a positive impact on my moods and general productivity.

I'm attempting to gradually increase my meditation time, but find that anything upwards of 20 minutes gives me pins and needles and numbness in my legs; which can be distracting and can prevent further successful meditation.

I meditate whilst sat upright on the floor, on a couple of pillows (not in full lotus, just however i feel comfortable). Im a 21 year old male, who is physically fit and healthy.

I wondering firstly if this is normal, and secondly if there is anything i should do to try and prevent it?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Martin x

Hi Martin and welcome to the community

Maybe it's the way you are sitting. I usually lie down or just sit comfortable in a chair when I meditate. As you are quite new to meditation here is a link to a thread which has helped many people here:-

Principles of Meditation & Entrainment

Please let us know if it is helpful to you and I wish you much peace and joy

I agree with Polly,

It's not necessary to try and sit in a lotus position or even on the floor for meditation. I sit in a comfy chair whilst doing it.

Hugs

Giles
