Weird Feeling?? Time Speeds up and My Mind Goes Crazy
Almost every time I meditate this "thing" happens. I'm 16 years old and I found this site again from when I last visited two years ago, just so I could hopefully get some help on this.
When I start out meditating everything is normal. Then I feel it slowly come on. First my body begins to feel odd, like its not my body but I'm still in it. Then after that, time begins to shift in my head. I think louder and my brain goes crazy. The feeling is like a thousand atomic bombs going off. Its not what I would call "enjoyable".
When I was a kid I used to get that exact feeling, but only when I was sick with a fever and I'd have to get a cold towel on my head to get rid of it. Now it just takes me sitting down and meditating to bring it back, with one difference. If the feeling gets too much, all I have to do is stand up and move around and the feeling is gone in a snap.
Many times I tried to endure this extremely whack sensation, but it gets too intense and I have to stop it after about 5 minutes.
Anyone have ANY idea on what this is? Its really kind of annoying because I can't meditate with my brain yelling at me to wake up.

Hi there Nick and welcome to the community
I have not experienced what you describe so I have found the link to your first post and some suggestions that may be of help to you...
Hi!! <-- New Member!
I do understand that people have a whole variety of expectations and the following link describes the principles of meditation for you.
Principles of Meditation & Entrainment
Not sure what kind of meditation you are doing and would highly recommend the "Discover Meditation" course which you can download for free.
Hope this helps and I wish you much peace and joy

Someone else MUST have experienced this??
Its getting worse now, more defined.
Just now I was lying on my bed focusing really hard on someone, to the point where its almost like I'm there and its real time.
It feels kind of like an OCD thing. My thoughts have to think in a certain way to feel "right". Thats the first stage.
After that my sense of touch goes haywire. I had to pull out of my focused state and try and control it. Usually I grab something metal and I can make it go away, but this time it persisted. We then got to the next stage.
Everything was going super fast. I felt my pulse and I couldn't tell if it was actually beating fast or if my pulse was normal, just sped up by my fluctuating perception of time. I then laid down and tried to wait it out. Bad idea.
My mind went crazy aftter that. Voices yelling at each other to make it stop. To put it into an analogy, lets compare my mind to a house. And there's a tornado in my house. Or the tasmanian devil just throwing everything around. And then there's 1 sane person trying to keep order and get rid of the tasmanian devil.
My mind went back only after I got up and rinsed my hands in cold water.
Someone please, help me out. I have no idea what this is. It only happens when I'm visualizing really well...

Have you tried not visualizing instead?
You haven't yet explained what type of meditation you are doing, but have you tried the discover meditation CD's that Polly linked to for you?
Hugs

I agree with Giles.
It's like calling a garage saying that when you drive your car, first everything is going well, and then suddenly you hear a loud clanging noise and the car breaks down.
We need more info !
We might discover that you think that when changing gears, the R is for racing, while it is actually Reverse :P
But for now it is impossible to help you without knowing your meditation type.

Hey Nick,
I can relate to your experiences. I too had very high fever as a child, with VERY weird sensations. Time sped up, everything was like on fast forward, and my fingers and toes felt like they were blown up like balloons. The time thing came back years after the experience (i believe until i was 14), and the thick fingers feeling still comes back sometimes when im meditating or in similar situations (though not very often).
As far as i know its called the Alice in wonderland syndrom. Im not sure what happens within the brain with such a high fever, but somehow these experiences get burned in. All i can say is, that those feelings arent dangerous at all, but of course they feel strange. But those experiences are quiet common, you can find a lot of them on google.
Oh and btw, i had this voices in the head also. It was like a radio in my head that switched frequencys every 2 seconds. It got way better when i started to meditate. Seems like its stress related. Theres a difference to shizophrenia, because theres still this sane instance, which just experiences these stuff... shizophrenic people dont have this sane part anymore, that can differ about radio in the head and "itself". So no... we're not crazy. The brain is a machine and can get out of sync for different reasons... most stress related.
Atb,
Phil

Thanks to everyone. I looked up Alice in Wonderland syndrome. That's exactly what it is. I can relax now, now that I know what it is. I'm don't think it was directly related to meditation, but maybe getting to a deeper state triggers something in my brain.
And I'll look "Discover Mediation" course. Thanks guys. (:
