I thought I would use an avatar, found an image, reduced it to correct size bu it won't upload, can anyone offer advice

It would appear I don't need help as my avatar appeared with my previous help message, I feel silly now but am giggling and I admit to being blonde though i do have academic qualifications, just not in the use of computers and all things related, tee hee!
