An Easy Insomnia Fix

Insomnia strikes most adults at least once in their lives and for many, it is a chronic condition. While there can be many causes ranging from what you ate to late-night electronics use, most insomnia is caused by stress. Worry keeps you awake but if you can get control of your “monkey mind” (racing and often negative thoughts) you will be able to get the rest you need.

Watch this short video by Deepak Chopra, where he talks about insomnia, and takes you through a soothing and effective sleep meditation you can use if you have trouble falling asleep or if you wake up during the night.

According to Deepak Chopra, worrying about insomnia actually makes things even worse (“I can’t fall asleep!” makes you even more anxious and alert).

But, there is good news, too: if you stay in bed and lie still, your body is getting almost the same rest as it would if you were asleep (hopefully that will ease some of your worries about not being able to sleep).

And, it gets better: this short sleep meditation is a type of autogenic training that helps you learn to influence your body through your verbal commands. You can learn to “tell” your body to relax so you can achieve deep relaxation and reduce stress (you can learn to stimulate your body and increase your energy levels using verbal commands as well!).

Deepak’s video may be enough to give you instant relief, but as with other meditative practices, you can expect the results to improve with practice. We recommend you watch the video, learn the techniques and practice them in a brief evening meditation to help you get to sleep. You can repeat them anytime if you wake up during the night.

The more you practice, the more comforted you will feel knowing that you have much more control over your sleep than you may have thought, so if you do wake up in the middle of the night, you can avoid anxiety and quickly get back to sleep.
