Shambala Meditation

Chogyam Trungpa, founder of Shambala meditation and Shambala International states in his teachings about the Shambala Vision and Shambala meditation that all people have basic natures of warmth, intellect, and kindness These natures are often suppressed, but can be cultivated and expanded through reflection and the practice of Shambala meditation.

He also stated that “the Shambala meditation teachings are based on the principle that there is a basic human knowledge that can aid in solving problemsof the world.”  This knowledge is not assumed to originate from any one culture, faith, or practice of meditation  The kindness and warmth of each individual can be enclosed by apprehension and self-centeredness  The journey to becoming completely human requires that one observe through this apprehension and awaken to discover the natural intelligence.  The journey of awakening is called the path of the warrior, because of the courage required to face one’s own mind.  The Shambala path of meditation requires the practitioner to learn various other practices of meditation also.  This contemplation assists us to break through old habits and self-image, to awaken completely to the bliss of living in the world.

The subsequent point of view is taught by Chogyam Trungpa. In Tibetan Buddhism, Shambala is a legendary mystical kingdom concealed beyond the peaks of the Himalaya mountains.  Some ancient texts talk of this kingdom, including the writings of the Zhang Zhang culture, which preceded Buddhism in Tibet.  The word Shambala is from Sanskrit, and means “the place of tranquility.”  This place is thought to be a society where all inhabitants have reached enlightenment through meditation The locality of this mystical society is unknown, but  is often alleged to be in Asia, not too far from Tibet.  On the other hand, some suggest that Shambala can be a kingdom of the mind and found through meditation practice.  In these views, Shambala is the enlightened society that every one, regardless of faith, can aspire to and realize.

Although Shambala meditation is deep-rooted in Buddhism, it is a new expression of the spiritual journey.  Shambala meditation is obtainable by members of any tradition.  This important custom allows its practitioners to reside in this secular world with courage, compassion, and bliss  The Shambala teachings allow the connection with natural powers and the energy of the world.  Through following the tradition of Shambhala meditation, it is possible to preserve the natural birthright of intelligence, wisdom, and compassion.
