Meditation Bead

Meditation bead, also known as rosary beads or mala are used to help a person stay engaged in the meditative process. A Meditation bead helps achieve a more restful and enlightened meditation by helping to keep your mind on the mantra. During times of low energy one may fall asleep or conversely during times of high energy our mind may wander and play with fantasy. That is where your meditation bead comes in.

Meditation bead consists of 108 beads on a string. They can be made from various types of materials. Some of those materials are sandalwood, tulsi wood, rudraksh seed or crystal. Each material has a different effect on the subconscious mind of a person during meditation.

To use the meditation bead, you will move them in rhythm with your breathing and or mantra. Mala beads are usually held in the right hand. To begin you will want to be ready to start your meditation. Slow rhythmic breathing clearing your mind. You may want to just hold them in your right hand for a moment and let all your energy flow through your hand into the beads.

There are two methods that can be used to move the meditation bead. One way has the beads hanging between the thumb and the ring finger. The middle finger is used to rotate the beads one bead towards oneself with each repetition of the mantra or breath. The second method the mala is hanging on the middle finger, with the thumb used to rotate the mala one bead at a time. Regardless of the method you use the index finger should never touch the beads.

You will begin with the largest bead, the head bead or summit bead, and move from one bead to the next continuing around until you reach the summit bead again. The summit bead is never passed over. If you intend to continue your meditation with the beads you go in the reverse, or backwards. In other words you start with the summit and once you reach the summit you will go back the way you came.

Whenever the meditation bead is taken up, it conditions the mind to be in a meditative state. It is very important that your meditation bead has not been strewn about. They should be kept in a private place. Meditation bead can be worn as well. When used regularly with a mantra the beads absorb the vibrations of the practice and it becomes a source of strength for you.

There is a good and purposeful use for meditation beads. They help you stay focused during meditation and offer a way for you to have a deeper experience. Meditation bead are made from different types of materials, each with its own affect on the subconscious mind. Do a little research and find the one that works best for you.
