TM is practiced twice a day for twenty minutes at a time. You would focus on a mantra, which is a word or sound you make. When you have thoughts come up or feelings occur, you simply go back to your mantra and continue with TM. There are many people who consider that TM is the best type of meditation there is.

“The Relaxation Meditation Response”:

“Relaxation meditation response” form of meditation is one that was created by a westerner, Doctor Herbert Benson. After he conducted various researches on meditations he came up with “the relaxation meditation response”. Within this type of meditation you would focus on your choice of a single word, mantra phrase, prayer, or even a repetitious movement such as swimming, knitting or yoga. You will focus on the repetition of your mantra or movement. This is also practiced twice a day for ten to twenty minutes each time.

Mindfulness Meditation:

Long-established Buddhist meditation customs use mindfulness meditation. You would sit with your eyes closed while you focus all of your attention on your breath. You would practice mindfulness meditation about one hour per day. You simply focus on your breath, the movement of your breath and the sensations you feel when breathing. This can bring awareness to your conscious thoughts and feelings on a regular basis and help you deal with stress and anxiety. This type of meditation can bring about a general and heightened sense of awareness.

How to Find the Right Meditation for You –

The right type of meditation should bring about your own contemplation, reflection and rumination. You might practice one of the types of meditations available and find that it’s not for you. That is all right, because you can practice any of the different meditations. It is no use to try practicing a meditation that doesn’t work for you. You should find the right meditation that you can work well with.
