We’re kicking off Monday with some simple yet life changing tips…

Minister, Teacher and Empowerment specialist Iyanla Vanzant shares 5 top tips for a more joyful life. Sometimes, the simplest solutions are the best as you’ll discover in the short video below.

Then decide if you too would agree that Iyanla’s tips are the foundation of a happy, purposeful and joyful life?

Here’s all 5 again! So simple …. yet so powerful!

Daily spiritual practice.

Whatever spirituality means for you… do it.

Whether it’s Meditation, prayer, deep breathing, repeating a mantra, painting, sitting or walking in nature… these are without a doubt restorative and authentic life-enhancing habits.

People have a spiritual practice for many reasons:

  • Finding purpose/direction.
  • Learning how to forgive oneself and others.
  • Finding happiness and inner peace.
  • Overcoming pain and suffering.
  • Learning how to embrace all emotions.
  • Finding connection.
  • Personal growth.
  • Exploration of life’s mysteries.
  • Searching for answers/truth.

So when it comes to ‘self-care and self-nurturing’.

How much of every 24 hrs do you spend on you?

If something is important to you and you don’t prioritize it, you are doing yourself a massive disservice. Don’t confuse self-care and self-nurturing with being selfish and ignoring the needs of others.

You have to fill your tank, in many different ways, before you can begin to help others. Many people don’t do this, and they end up feeling frustrated and burned out.

Taking 30 minutes a day just for you, will leave you feeling happier and so much more enthusiastic! Not only will this benefit you, it will also benefit those around you.

“Learn radical self-care and self-nurture!” ….. Just Do IT!

Forgive.

‘Forgiveness’ is probably the most important self-loving spiritual practice.

When you forgive, It relieves you of the burden that you have been carrying about a past hurt. It is only ‘You’ that chooses to remain hurt by it, so you actually cause yourself harm over and over again. This is absolutely the opposite of self-care and nurture.

With practice, being more compassionate towards those who hurt you will become second nature to you and you’ll see for yourself what happens when you really let it go.

Don't forgive because you are weak.

When you forgive another, this doesn’t necessarily mean you condone what they did, and it doesn’t mean you have to have a relationship with them. Just release the burden.

Perhaps most importantly, forgive yourself for your own past mistakes. When you do this, it is of course going to be far easier to then forgive others. If you have learned from your mistakes, then they have been beneficial in some way.

Be grateful.

Gratitude opens you up to true enjoyment and appreciation of life. Challenge yourself to think about something to be grateful for in every situation, even if you don’t get what you want (what is the blessing in disguise, for not getting what you wanted?).

Challenge yourself to be grateful for what other people bring to your life, even if you dislike them (everybody is both a student and a teacher).

Challenge yourself to appreciate the little things you can often take for granted. You will find that as you appreciate what you have, you are less anxious about “not having” other things (if nothing else, this is a huge money saver).

Challenge yourself to be grateful for your mistakes and failures, as they are powerful teachers.

Challenge yourself to be grateful for adversity, because adversity is a medium for growth, and it also helps you fully appreciate the easier times.

Have a vision.

Or sense of purpose, where you allow your dreams to come to life. Do you have a grand vision for your life, that delicious dream that makes you feel so good just thinking about it? If you have only snippets of a dream, some “bucket list” items, practice pulling those snippets together into a beautiful tapestry of a dream. This practice gives your life purpose and meaning.

It's easy to forgive when you know what your purpose isEven though these 5 tips seem obvious and simple – and you’ve probably read about them a thousand times – they are the building blocks of a life well-lived.
The trouble is that it’s too easy to let life get in the way of these practices.

It’s too easy to get caught up in cycles of worry and busy-ness and forget that the simplicity of these practices is where your true power, happiness and peace reside.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.
Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking.
Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice.
And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition”.

~ Steve Jobs

It doesn’t take a lot of time or even effort to have a spiritual practice, take care of yourself, forgive, be grateful, and nurture a vision. If you only pick one or two!

Do it for you, start today and live well for the rest of your life.
