In a culture obsessed with youth, people spend huge sums of money on anything that promises to reduce aging.

Actually, you don’t need to spend any money at all to look and feel great. Spiritual teacher Deepak Chopra says people only grow old when they stop growing spiritually and mentally.

He says it’s possible to change your physical age simply by changing a number of things including your perception.

One of the most impactful things about ways you can use your mind to reduce aging is something that many of us never really consider: our obsession with time.

Deepak Chopra suggests you change your relationship with time, and for me, this has worked wonders.

We live in a fast-paced busy world where we are always checking to see what time it is, operating under deadlines, and saying things like, “I’m running out of time” or “I’m late!”

When we are time-obsessed, we create the stress response in the body, which contributes to accelerated aging. Rest is one of the first things on the list and quite rightly so!

Meditation is a way to help relax the body and mind, and to be less attuned to the ticking of the clock. But there are other, easy ways you can minimize the feeling of always being in a hurry:

Get up earlier, so that you are not rushed in the morning (even 15 minutes can help!)

Prioritize your activities and get rid of any activities or obligations that cause you stress. It’s better to say no, and have time for things that mean a lot to you, than to say yes and live in overwhelm.

Timeout Time OutWhenever you can – if only on weekends – do away with clocks altogether. Let your body follow its natural rhythms: wake when you’re ready, eat only when you’re hungry (regardless of whether it’s “time to eat” or not), move your body when you feel like it, do challenging mental tasks when you’re feeling sharp, and rest when you’re tired.

Do the important things first so you’re not constantly stressed about “when” you will get to them.

Minimize electronic distractions that eat up precious time and cause you to have to rush through everything.

Meditation also has one wonderful “side effect” that you may not know about: long-term meditators’ biological ages are on average 12 YEARS younger than their chronological ages. Meditation is a true fountain of youth!

    I have been meditating for years – I am 73 but NO ONE believes it when they see me. I do a lot to stay healthy of course – so who knows which is doing what – but meditating keeps me from feeling stress and I love doing it! It is FREE to do and our bodies really respond. Thank you for all you do to promote meditation. I have used your entire program.
