Transcendental Meditation

A spiritual leader named Maharishi Mahesh Yogi introduced transcendental meditation to the western World in 1958. This form of meditation requires you to repeat a particular sound   known as a mantra. Over a period of time, Maharishi’s transcendental meditation created global recognition, including the creation of The Maharishi University of Management in Iowa, United States. The Maharishi University of Management began offering classes in Iowa in 1974, and additional schools followed. According to the “Transcendental Meditation Movement”, there are more than six million people practicing Transcendental Meditation globally.

What exactly is Transcendental Meditation?

According to Wikipedia, a free online encyclopedia, Transcendental Consciousness is said to be a fourth major state of awareness, different from waking, sleeping or dreaming. When the mind settles down during Transcendental Meditation, a state of "restful alertness" is experienced. Thought becomes quieter and quieter, until the mind is no longer bound by thoughts or perceptions but experiences attentiveness conscious to itself alone. This state is an experience of "amness", or "being", the limitless untainted consciousness that is at the foundation of thoughts and feelings. Transcendental meditation is the fourth state of awareness with the past three being:
Dreamless Sleeping State of awareness
Dreaming Sleeping State of awareness
Waking State of awareness

The next three states of transcendental meditation levels are:

Cosmic awareness
God awareness
Unity awareness
There are many people who have achieved success practicing transcendental meditation. The American Journal of Physiology and The Scientific American published that transcendental meditation created a “restful alertness”. This was a result of studies done on transcendental meditation. The studies revealed that people in a transcendental state of meditation had displayed various measurable signs that they were asleep, even though they were not, consequently the term restful alertness.
