Motivation to meditate can sometimes be difficult to find even though the advantages of meditation may be obvious. Why is finding motivation to meditate so hard sometimes? Is it a fear of the unknown? Fear not though, even with our busy modern day lives, finding that motivation to meditate should not be as hard as it seems!
Even though we know what is best for us, we don’t always make time for it. Why is this? Probably the easiest answer to this is that we are not in the habit of doing it. If you don’t put any thought into the action and do it every day, you will not find the motivation to meditate. A paradigm is what controls most of the actions we take every day. A paradigm is a collection of habits. It’s basically who you are. In order to put a new thing into practice, it takes dedication. To overcome the paradigms that control many of our actions, you must use repetition.
With a little consideration, it’s easy to see what meditation can do for you. Study after study has proven that it makes you a much healthier individual overall. It improves your immune system, your energy level, and your cardiovascular system. Above even that, it helps you to gain control of the mental war that is going on in your head. Without getting clear and quiet, it is difficult to tap into the inner voice and thoughts that are so important. Listening to this intuition will guide you in the right direction. With this inner guidance system loud and clear, you’ll make fewer mistakes. In contemplation of these many benefits, it should hopefully be easier for you to find motivation to meditate.
So how do we develop this motivation to meditate? The answer is through spaced repetition. The best way to do this is to pick a specific time of day and do it every single day. There are many different estimates as to how long this practice will take to develop into a habit. Some of the most recent information suggests that 40 days is a good time frame. Regardless of which timeframe you select, it is essential that you stick to it. If you get to day 38 and you miss your first day…start all over. It’s that important. Can you just cut corners? This is a decision that you have to make. Has this approach worked for you in life up until this point? Probably not. If you want different results, you must change what you’re doing.
In this scenario, you would probably start to notice little things that are different in your everyday life. It most likely will not be a huge life-changing event in most cases. However, this is not out of the question. You will start to notice a change in the way you deal with people. You will not jump to conclusions as quickly. Your interpersonal relationships will most likely improve. You will probably be in a much better mood throughout the day. Things that used to get on your nerves will not do so as much any more.
