I think what we all need to learn is that we do not have to create silence.

The silence is there within us. What we have to do is enter into it, to become silent, to become the silence.

This is a mysterious place, but as you experience it, it is like comming home.

    Agree.

We find the silence, not by looking for it, but by letting go of the Not Silence.

Ironically we practice searching for silence, yet it is always present, always available, never wavering. Always waiting patiently for us to notice...

    peace :)

A writer starts with a blank page.

A song starts with a blank silence.

We can not let go of our belief of silence until we experience it, know it and connect with it.
The intention of moving into silence eventually creates our experience of it.

It is probably remiss of me, however nor should we neglect the importance of silence's partner - stillness. Physical and mental stillness is an imporant factor in the consideration of silence.

Similar to what Michael was saying...

All sounds come from silence and return to silence.
If you're mathematically minded you can consider that, in terms of a differential equation, as the time tends towards zero, the sound tends towards silence. Thus sound can only exist over a period of time, but in the present moment of Now, there is no sound.

And olmate, you are absolutely spot on. Sound is simply movement of particles (scientifically speaking) in a wavelike fashion, so silence is stillness, and as above, when we live in the Now, there is only stillness.

    Hugs

    Giles

Soooo, maybe a little experiment for Hazelkay...

If you consider your tinitus to be "movement", try stilling the motion, even a little and see what happens...

Silence can be like a vacuum cleaner. With a small or large period of silence each day the mind can cough up what has been built up and been causing blockage or upsets.

Be silent ---see what comes up--- release it and let it go on its way
(or just replace that thought with a better one)

    Michael:)
