Thanks for allowing a newbee here. I've been faced with many major challenges in my life over the last 3 years and am currently facing a new one. I would love to get people's insights as to how to better weather and gain perspective on these challenges.

I don't know where to start. Through some quirks in laws in the country where I live, I owe a large sum of money to the government, even though I've paid the same sum already to another country (enough to say buy a large house with). I've spent 1 year of my life fighting this quirk as it is objectively and logically unfair and it is enough money to change my life and work significantly in years to come. To make the equivalent amount again would take at least 10 years of very hard work.

I feel that since I have worked extremely hard for this money and have already paid it in another country, I find it extremely hard to let go and accept. I feel like it is easy for others to say to accept it and move on, but it's not their lives and future that it is affecting.

Is this a situation in which you choose to persist or accept? I realize I am new to this and therefore any kind insight would be much appreciated.

Hi KitCat and welcome to the community :)

All new people are welcome here. I'm not sure if your question has anything to do with meditation, however, regular meditation has allowed me to deal calmly with and overcome many challenges.

I don't know which country you live in or it's quirks in the laws, however, I do know life is not always fair. Others will always have opinions and I would always check out what these opinions are based on before even considering them (including mine).

If this was happening to me, I would leave no stone unturned in finding out my rights and hopefully a solution to the matter. This is where meditation has helped me often, in suddenly finding a solution (almost like thinking outside the box) to something when there didn't seem to be one.

Having done this, if I found there was no other way than to have to pay both countries, then I would accept that I cannot change the situation. I would accept the debt, however, I would not accept a pile of emotional angst along with it.

I have owned an invaluable quote on an ornament for decades and never really understood it until recent years. I live my life by this quote and everyday it proves to be priceless to me. I hope it is helpful to you:-

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference"

The last thing I can offer is a question I always ask myself when challenges arise:- What's the worst thing that can happen and can I handle it?"

Whatever anyone can take from you (including the government) they cannot take your happiness; your hope; your imagination or your attitude.

Hope this proves helpful to you and I wish you much peace and joy :) :) :)

Well, that sounds like a challenge. :)

I for myself accept these things as lessons to learn. The emotions that things like these create within me are supposed to be here, so i can learn from them.

So its all good. Its only emotions and thoughts, no more no less.

I recently got judged to pay € 6000,- because i downloaded a copyright protected ebook (about spirituality, which i downloaded for someone else). In the beginning i felt probably like you (though im sure its not nearly the same amount of money), but then i accepted it and i trust in god and my life story, as it is here for me to learn. I trust that everything has its meaning and reason.

    Just my 5 cent. :)
