Welcome to the Project Meditation community.
It sounds as though you are using contemplative meditation, focusing on some aspect of action or emotion. Have you tried meditating on something without "meaning", such as the breath or a mantra? You could also download Michaels free "Discover Meditation" cd's and listen to those and see if they help.
