Default Newbie, meditation technique?

Hi there guys!

I have just started with lifeflow 10 after using the demo for a little while.

I am having a little problem with technique though, is it best to try to visualise the breath, or use a mantra, or both!

Also if I am using a mantra, how often should I be thinking it, each breath, on the inhale, out hale, continuously.

I'm a little confused!

Regards,

Leggy.

Hi there leggy and welcome to the community,

if you are new to meditation, you can download the free Discover Meditation course at the top left of the community page. Michael will talk you all the way through and then you will understand how to meditate while listening to LifeFlow. Look forward to hearing how you get along,
I wish you much peace and joy

Smile meditation techniques

Hi Leggy,

Enjoy Lifeflow 10 while using any technique.

Michael's instructions on using a mantra with Lifeflow are very clear and if you are using a mantra you can let the breath take care of itself.

If a mantra does not suit you, you can also meditate with lifeflow just using the breath.

Just observe the natural breath, don't do anything to change it. Of course, in the process of observing the breath it seems less natural and as if you are controlling it - just let this be - it will go in time.

If the mind wanders off the breath, that's fine - just return to the breath as soon as you are aware you have drifted.

If you are drifting a lot then pay a bit more attention to the characteristics of the breath - is it deep or shallow - regular or irregular, in one nostril or both, can you feel the difference in temperature as it comes in and goes out and so on.

As you sit quietly the body may start to feel uncomfortable, you can just observe this, but if it gets distracting you can gently ease your position to a more comfortable one.

It's a great adventure, this exploration inside - have fun!
peace and joy

I did LOL!

I was having trouble even after the instructions.

I've also heard the way to let go of things is to watch and observe your thoughts about them. However, I am finding it very difficult to watch and observe without getting involved in them.

Any advice?

My only suggestions would be to have another spin through the free course just for good measure, I do once in a while and it doesn’t do any harm.

With regard to this, simply don’t worry about it – just bring yourself into focus on your mantra once you have realised you’ve been absorbed in a thought.

Rather than thinking it’s something you have to “get right” think of it more of slowly cultivating your awareness, so that you recognise thoughts and being caught up in them more frequently. It’s a gradual water shaping stone type thing, so don’t beat yourself up for getting caught up in thoughts etc, if anything just be glad you’ve caught yourself again, relax and start again. Nice and easy , happy days .

I’m sure you’ll get some more sound advice from others on this forum, but that’s my 10p’s worth.

Paul
