Hi Taylor and welcome to the Project Meditation community.
It doesn't sound nuts at all. We are all different people experiencing different things and most are just playing the game of life (playing our parts in different situations). Whilst many people may look happy, contented, enjoying themselves they are probably holding back from what is really happening within themselves and in the parts of life you don't see, because they fear admitting it to others as if they will appear nuts. Well that's the good news, you're normal.
Meditation will certainly be a benefit to you (have you downloaded the free Discover Meditation CD's yet? If not, you should, there's no tie-in's, no mass marketing, no cut down versions etc. it's the genuine thing and kindly given away by the owner of this site Michael).
Nobody will promise any fast fixes because (as previously mentioned) we're all different. Some people will notice benefits quickly and others not so quickly (and before you think it.... no! you're going to one of the ones who benefits quickly, I can sense it). It just takes a little time put aside and some practice. It's not what happens in the meditation practice itself that matters, but how it effects your day to day life and this will become apparent as you continue practicing and start looking back at where you were when you started.
There's loads of people here with experience of meditating and we're always happy to offer advice and help, so if you've got any questions, please do just ask.
Hugs
Giles
