Talking cheers everyone

Hello
Another newbie here, enjoying meditation. I suffer from somewhat crippling anxiety, depression and am the epitome of the word angry. I discovered this place on youtube after a bad day when I was just looking for something to calm me down.
I haven't done the CDs as much as I would like (I have a very noisy neighbor) and I don't think I have yet been in a "state of meditation." I find it very difficult to hold on to my mantra. The first few times I would always slip away to thinking about who I was angry at and all my hateful memories would come to the surface. Now I can maintain it a little better, but I find myself sometimes thinking "What's for lunch?"
But for a moment the other day I felt as if my feet had melted into the floor and I had become one with the chair...it was amazing.
I know I have miles to go before reaching the levels of some other people here ... and in all honesty I don't know if I can stick with it for that long ( I am not only an orchid but a bee that flits from flower to flower )
All the same glad to meet everyone!!!

Hello Withered Orchid,

Welcome to the forum. Glad to hear that you have had some positive experiences, even though they may not be many yet. I hope you stick with it...I think you will find the benefits amazing. My friend also suffers from anxiety, depression and sometimes raging anger. Her results have been quite positive. She finds her anger does not "flare up" as often as it did before she started meditating. Also, the anxiety has subsided.

Regarding the "what's for lunch?" thoughts (or any thoughts for that matter)...one recommendation is to treat these thoughts like clouds...observe them, and then just let them be...and float along.

You will find many caring people on here. The moderators are wonderful and will be able to help you much more than I can. I just mainly wanted to say hello.

I liked hearing about your friend. Hearing about someone who got better always gives me hope. I've reached a plateau really, I am not really expecting anything from the mediation, because my depression comes really from my lifestyle..... which I can't yet build up the courage to change

Thanks for the advice about the thoughts, I remember it from the CDs, although my thoughts are more like raging hurricanes more than clouds, because I can often go of on a tangent for ten minutes or more before I remember "oh wait I am supposed to be meditating!!!! ommmmm... "
I am not worried about it though my mind just isn't accustomed to being at peace.
Since I am a professional daydreamer I prefer the guided meditations, walking along the beach, going into caves, my mind is there!!
