Default The Table 2

see this post first The Table

Ok let’s take this one-step further by using first our sight, then our hearing

Open your eyes and take your hands off the table. Look at the table. Experience the table visually only. Just relax and just look. When you look without the thought “table” and without touching it, there is no way to know that there is a separate object there. There is no way to know that it is a table. It may still seem like there is a separate object there apart from other objects. You may find yourself still wanting to label what you see, colours, shapes, and lines that show a separate object. But those are all concepts, look without those concepts.

Nothing about the sense of sight, alone, reveals a separate object called “table.” Vision does not think. It does not see objects. At the most, it presents colours, shapes, and lines. But even that is not known until those concepts arise. Visual seeing never happens outside of awareness. It is awareness itself.

____

Now close your eyes again and use your sense of hearing. Tap on the table, keep your eyes closed, no visualising of a table. There is no touching of the table to feel sensations. There is only hearing of a sound. When you listen to that sound without the thought “table” appearing, nothing tells you that it is a table. Your mind might call it something, maybe the thought “wood” But wood is a concept. Listen to the tapping without concepts. In fact, listen to the sound of the tapping even without the concept of sound. Nothing about the sense of hearing, alone, reveals a separate object called “Table” It takes awareness for hearing to be experienced. Therefore, hearing never appears outside awareness. Hearing is inseparable from awareness. It is awareness itself.

Finally open your eyes and see, touch the table, tap it, allow all the concepts and thoughts to fill your experience. But notice that these thoughts seem to fill your experience with divisions that are also inseparable appearances to awareness. They are not separate objects, they arise one after the other in a sequence. The thought “table” is only one of a series of thoughts. You are only experiencing a thought happening in a series of other thoughts and sensations all through awareness itself.

Who are you really?

Peace

Default the deception of the senses and of mind

the deception of the senses

Eyes cannot see, ears cannot hear, touch cannot feel.

They are complicated tools, but all they do is recieve data ( like sound and light vibrations, pressure on the skin ) and transform that date into pulses that are transmitted towards the brain, where the data is transformed again into an interpretation of mind of what the world should look like.
But what is green ? Is green the same way to another person ? Is that which we see real ?
In fact, is it realtime ? The transmission of data from the eye to the brain takes a fraction of a second, the interpretation of the data to make an image takes another fraction of a second.
The image you see, the sound you hear, they are already images from the past when you notice them. But that which notices the images and sounds is always now, even if it is presented with images from a not so distant past.

the deception of the mind

When the mind stops labeling, in fact, when all thoughts come to a halt, your existence doesn't end. You are still there, and in fact, you are still able to move, act, react, operate heavy machinery. The thoughts in your mind are like the commentator of a sports match.
It can tell hugely interesting facts, disagree with the referee, name every player in the field, comment on actions...
But it can't change anything that happens in the match, it has no control over the players, the referee, the weather, the camera angle, the chanting of the public.
And yet, people keep listening to this commentator, with full interest because the match is so exiting and you want to know what happens all the time. The commentator can play with your emotions (if he is a good one).

But the outcome of the match is not in the commentator's control, try switching off the sound during a match, or even switching off the tv, and see if that has any effect on the outcome.
Once you realise that the commentator has no function, you can still listen to him, and enjoy the match, but he will have no power over your emotions anymore. Now, watching the match has become truly recreational, something amusing to watch, but not worth squeezing your beercan for

Hi Edwin,

You have a very unique way of pointing using everyday metaphors.

As they say over here “good on ya mate!”

Quite true, as quite often I explain to my wife, when she assumes I have done something wrong. "But darling, I do not exist".
She normally replies,
"Well, rotate your illusory self 180° and fade away "

Haha your wife sounds like a smart woman. But alas, who is there to know that no one exists, eh?

Non-duality humor. Gotta love it.
That's almost as funny as an Adavaita teacher claiming copyright on his book
