"You need to practice meditation until you realise you don't have to meditate anymore"
But that is not what it says.
You need
a meditation practice meaning for instance focus on the breath, focus on a mantra, until you realise that the state you are trying to reach through a practice is always there and can be accessed instantly, either during meditation practice or in daily life.
The Buddha kept on meditating until his death.
