Default Eyes Open Or Closed

Hi.

I am new to meditating and have a question. What is best; meditating with eyes open or with eyes closed. I read that meditating with eyes open is best as when eyes are closed the mind wanders and chatters. However, Michael's guidelines say eyes closed. I haven't tried with eyes open yet, but wondered what you all thought.

Thanks in advance.
MJ

Hi MJ and welcome to the community. I personally think it's better to meditate with eyes closed because the brain almost immediately begins to increase its production of Alpha waves the moment you close your eyes. Try it and see. Have a great World Peace Day

I too find it best to meditate with eyes closed. :-)

Hey MJ,

I just finished reading through the book "Mindfullness in Plain English" last night (a link to it is in another post by a member named goodoljoshua).

The book explains that you can meditate with your eyes either closed or open. It is just preference. I personally meditate with my eyes closed, but you should experiment and see what works best for you. If you want to learn exactly how to meditate with your eyes open, you can read about meditating at the bottom of page 40 in the above mentioned book.

I hope this helps,

Love,
Eric

I just picked up this book and look forward to more pointers on meditating. I've read a bit of it; it seems real straight forward.

Hey Gus,

I'm glad you are reading that book. Thank goodoljoshua for the link.

I read through the whole book on Saturday (so I could finish before the meditation party lol).

Anyways, I think you will really enjoy the book as well. The book is very straighforward but it is also very strict with it's guidelines. A little bit different than Micahel's philosophy (there is no wrong way to meditate). For me, I'll try to find a happy medium between the two. All in all, I really enjoyed the book I hope you do too.

Much love,
Eric
