Default New to Meditating

Hello Everyone, I'm totally new to meditation but think I can benefit from it. I got interested as a way to enhance my performance in martial arts, but can see it has benefits far beyond that. I hope someone can answer a question: I have been doing breathing exercises, and when I am done I notice that colors appear brighter, and edges are more defined, and I am much more aware of my surroundings. This happens after about 10 minutes. What is that? Is it normal? common?
