Hi Rahul998 - I just was reading the new posts and came across yours. I am SO sorry that you are experiencing agoraphobia. I used to get panic attacks long ago. What worked for me were Flower Essences - to be exact they were the Bach Remedies - Mimulus for known fears and Aspen for unknown fears. You could give those a try. Also, I can remember in a Lazaris workshop long ago, this consciousness suggested carrying a crystal around for panic attacks. What you do is when you are feeling an attack coming on, you breathe in and out of the crystal. It worked for me when I was at the airport once. I felt an attack approaching, took out my crystal and just kept breathing in and out. It worked! If it were me, I'd give those flower essences a try and the crystal. Blessings to you - I'll send you some energy!! Sherri

Hi Rahul,
Meditation is a useful practice that helps us "see". Once we see, we are much better placed to accept, understand, allow, etc.
We all see and do not see. What we see is pretty much through the lens we each possess. Part of my lens for example is as a man, a father, a person who has experienced failed relationships, strong work ethics, spiritual, Christian upbringing, etc., etc.
All of these elements colour our view of the world.
Daily meditation practice is a process which enables each of us in the sanctuary of silence and stillness to gently peel away the dross and trivia that we wallpaper our lives with.
Does it make stuff go away? Well, no. But it brings all of this stuff into a perspective that does not hold us back on our journey. It helps us live in now and leave the past in the past and the future in the future and creates a focus on living right now. This place is avaiable to everyone right now.
So how do you get started? The free course on this site is a great place to start. Just dive in and show up for yourself each day thereafter.
Nothing but the best...

I started using it ... but I have never done meditation before ... So i don't know how to do so ... while listening to that meditation music .... should I focus on Nature sounds or on my breathing ..? & how can i know that I successfully meditated or I was just sitting listening to music ..? Sorry for the silly questions , I'm doing it first time ...

I don't know much about agoraphobia, Rahul, but you don't need to worry so much about your meditation. Are you "doing it right"? Well, all of us start somewhere, and your meditation will develop very naturally. The important thing is to keep doing it, and not become discouraged. Time, and your inner self, will take care of most everything else.
You can focus on breath, or a visual focus, or a mantra. Sometimes you will be very aware of the entrainment sounds on the tape, or the water sounds, or birds chirping, or whatever. Then you'll go minutes without even realizing there IS a tape.
In the beginning, it is hard to reach a deep meditative state. That doesn't matter. It will come later. Just quiet your thoughts...observe them passing along. Focus on your breathing, or mantra. I also very gently pull my attention to the "third eye" area, but that's just a technique I "grew up with". You can find what feels best for you.
Some people here swear the mantra is the easiest way. Others find it intrusive and artificial. Eventually, you too will probably have some opinion about that.
For now, please don't worry. Meditation is very "forgiving". It is almost impossible to do it "wrong". And you have lots of people here, to ask for advice.
Enjoy!

Bryan's advice is sound.
The only addition based on my own experience is choose a place that is as quiet as you can find. As far as posture is concerned, the basic teaching is to sit with your spine upright. Sit so you are comfortable. This could be on the floor or in a chair but try to keep your spine as erect as possible while still being comfortable. Close your eyes gently.
Personally I use a mantra. Based on my chosen path (Christian medatitive practice) I use "maranatha". I simply gently repeat the that word in silence in my heart, in the depths of my being and continue repeating it. I say it, articulate it in silence, but listen to it as it is a sound.
The word has much meaning for me. Some will say meaning should not be held. For me it takes me to the sanctuary, so the lesson is do what works for you. The word "maranatha" works for me due to the sylables (Ma-ra-na-tha) and its meaning. It is ancient Aramaic for a meaning similar to "come Lord". But I hasten to add, that is just what works for me.
The only other advice based on my personal experiences is the discipline to keep showing up for yourself each day. I do it within the context of Love. The routine was quickly established and carried me through any turbulance that surfaced.
It is simple. As Bryan advises, the issue is the practice. You will find that the universe will gently guide you to your path and practice.
Bon Voyage!!!

I get agoraphobic if I don't meditate regular, so I have to meditate to function properly. So I know what you are going through. You've come to the best place, you should give maditation a go.

Sagehoney I want to thank you for reminding me of the Bach Flower Essences! I've been suffering from anxiety and panic for the past few months. This past week I've used the Aspen essence and Rescue Remedy every day. They have really worked wonders for me! I used to use Rescue Remedy about 15 years ago and I've completely forgotten all about it. I know this past week has been better than I've been in a while, I'll see what this next week brings.
