Default A Little Help

I'm new to these forums and decided a place like this was the best place to turn. Here's what I have:
While meditating earlier last night, I was focusing on the Third Eye in attempts to hopefully open it. Every time I meditate with intent on the third eye, my left ear starts pulsing quite rapidly and noticably. Also, this time in particular, I obtained a massive headache and felt pressure throughout my head. The pressure slowly subsided through to course of about ten minutes. Can anyone clarify a little for me?

Hi Wootninja and welcome to Project Meditation.

When you say you were "focusing" on the third eye, how exactly were you doing that? Some people try and focus on the third eye by sort of forcing their eyeballs to look upwards inside their head. This in fact causes a strain on the eye muscles and can give a sensation of getting a headache.

Hugs

Giles

When I say I focus, it's a mixture of what you mentioned and just the thought of the eye opening. But does that explain the pressure that I felt even after the meditation was complete?

Yes, Wootninja, it's a question of how you "focus". Third Eye meditation is my own style, but I do NOT try to force my physical eyes into contortions. Instead, I focus my attention -- and inner vision -- into that area above and between the eye.

In the beginning, most people have trouble with it: the focus floats forward, until you are looking outward, not inward. But if you just keep gently bringing it back where it belongs, the habit eventually sticks.

I've never had any pulsing in the ears. The "third eye" area does tend to pulsate quite a bit, and I feel it in my throat, too.

The key is never to force anything. Gently, gently, gently....

So you think visualization is the best route to explore in this case?

Sorry, Wootninja, I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "visualization". For me, it is always about focusing my attention. I would suggest you focus on your breath and your "third eye". Do it very, very gently, without forcing it at all.

That would be my advice. I often feel a pressure or numbness in the back of my head, or pulsing in some areas. I pay almost no attention to it, and just focus on reaching a deep, quiet -- can I stress GENTLE again? -- meditative state.

Stay in touch. We'd all be interested in how things work out...

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll definitely try what you suggested and tell you how it goes.
