Default numb yet aware

so I was meditating on my emotions for about 10 min until i found my mind drifting away so I said to myself thinking... thinking... thinking and brought my attention back to my body. Right when I did that I became fully aware of every single little thing around me including every single part of my body. But what frightened me was that i felt like i had a pillow of numbness around my entire body. I felt more numb (yet i was still aware of sensations) than if I had taken 3 pills of oxycontin. is this normal? or is my mind just secretly drifting under my radar?

I wouldn't worry too much about it. That most likely happened because you had disidentified with your thoughts. Being in touch with our core being (who/what we really are) brings about different sensations if one is not used to being in touch with it. I sometimes experience the numbness you speak about.

As for your mind drifting without you "knowing", you'll know. Awareness is what meditation is all about, so you'll know if your mind is drifting. If it does drift, don't worry about it, just return to your mediation technique.

And don't get used to any feelings that arise from mediation either. Every single session is going to be different in it's own way, and that is great because there are no expectations to live up to.

Hi Buddy,

I too have experienced the "numbness sensation" that you describe.

I have had times when I can not feel my hands and/or feet as if they have totally disappeared, which I am sure is similar to what you are describing. As Midnight says dont worry about it. Just continue to observe what is happening.

I can relate to the disappearing phenomenon, it's like my legs and feet and just things attached to me that I can't feel or control or something, weird.
