Default Music stuck in my head constantly, why?

Hello all!

So I have found that the more I meditate and observe my mind/thoughts and delve into self-inquiry, the more clearer headed and present I have become, which is great, but... music gets stuck in my head all the time, increasingly so the more I clear my mind out.

It is usually the last song I listen to before shutting it off(but also sometimes one I particularly find catchy), and it plays in my head on a weird loop track! I usually just observe it and that is sometimes enough to stop the loop track, but sometimes it just keeps coming back even though I am observing it impartially.

Anyone know why this happens, or is it happening to anyone else here? I can't listen to music anytime before meditating or the stupid song is playing in my head and takes a bit to get rid of

Have a magnificent day!

I agree that music has taken up more and more space in my mind as the chatter has quieted down. I don't see it as a problem though. After all, Christians believe that Heaven will be filled with song, and the great Chinese educator Confucius believed in music's power to refine the soul. My advice would be to listen to classical music, which is less sticky. (I suspect this may actually be one reason why classical music is considered a sign of soul refinement.) If you find Bach's Brandenburg Concertos stuck in your head, you may want to consider a career in music...

Anyway, I don't think this music in your head will damage you in any way. It is just part of what is, so for now it is probably best to just accept it as part of your environment and not pay it needless attention. I mean, most of us cannot afford to float in a sensory deprivation tank during our meditation, but have to make do with sitting in a chair and closing our eyes. In the same way, meditating with music stuck in your head is a lot better than not meditating at all. Until some weeks ago, I lived four years close by a railroad. At seemingly random times, the vibrations of passing trains would shake and rattle the house. While living with the shaking may not have been ideal for my meditation, my meditation was ideal for living with the shaking. So keep up with it until something better comes along!

Hello ,, I was wondering, what is some good classical music for soul refinement? I do not know much about classical music but now that I have read your post, I do remember it being talked about before. Thank you,Paul

Hey,

Your problem is nothing unfamiliar, as it happens with me quite a bit as well. I think it's ok though as long as you recognize it and just observe it's workings. Most music is meant to be catchy so it's instantly recognizable, entertaining and hence profitable, so it's a perfect storm so to speak for music to get caught in our heads on a repeated loop (as it does with me) I used to get incredibly irritated and angry when it happened, thinking it was something wrong with me. However I've found that if I just accept it and watch it it doesn't bother me so much anymore. In fact it gets me through boring parts of the day I finally realized that if you get angry your just creating negative energy where you don't want it.

Hope this helps

Alright cool I'm not alone! You guys are right, I should just enjoy it and stop feeding it negative energy, that is probably just making it worse anyway...

I'm gunna have to just listen to music I wouldn't mind having in my head afterwards, I'm sick of random really catchy yet annoying in mass quantity type songs getting in there then driving me nuts.

I do notice when I listen to classical it doesn't get nearly as stuck, if at all, and the parts that do are catchy bits, which I'm okay with!

I feel like as the mind gets quieter it is looking for stuff to preoccupy it so it doesn't disintegrate, and music fits the bill really well when there isn't any illogical stuff to identify with or worry about. Damn thing is hanging on for dear life wherever it can!
