Default Trouble getting into the now

I have just started meditating and I'm having a bit of trouble. I started meditating in hopes of getting rid of my constant anxiety which I do not know the cause of. When I meditate I usually get somewhat percent in the now but then I gets to a point where my mind starts to dissolve which causes a great feeling of panic to erupt inside me and usually pushes me out of the now. This I believe means that I identify a great deal with my mind.

How do you guys deal with these feelings and does it ever get easier?

Hey man,

You don't get in the now, you live in it. You are it.

Some food for thought...

Anyways, I believe your issue is your expectations, and your need to cure something you can't accept.

Firstly, learn to believe that every meditation session will have it's own unique properties. To expect something from meditation is pointless because no two sessions will ever be the same, and expectations don't do anything for you anyways. Starts believing this, rather than only understanding it on a logical level and then continue pursuing a previous experience. That is some advice I recieved from these forums, and it worked well for me.

And a bit of advice on your need to cure a certain aspect of yourself...if you're trying to get rid of a certain state of mind/feeling/thought, then that means you're not accepting it, and the state of meditation cannot occur, because you'll be stuck in conscious thought. Always watching the thing you are trying to rid yourself of, rather than focusing on the meditation. Go into meditation accepting your current state of mind (completely...you might use EFT, or Sedona Method, or whatever. But you must actually accept what's going on internally. That means being okay if nothing happens)

Another note on "getting in the now". You don't really know that you're in it, because feeling the now means you're not thinking of it. So don't try to figure out if you're in the now, that was a lesson that took me a while to learn.

It does get easier, and I have struggled with the same problems as yourself for months before I found this site. You've found a goldmine. If you keep following this advice, and the advice of others around here you'll do fine. Patience

I recieved an email a few days ago of a regular member asking me why I didn't post as much on the forum as I used to...

It is actually because most of the time, someone allready gave excellent advice before I got round to it.

Excellent answer Midnight !

I'll second that. Since I linked back onto PM in the past week I have been really impressed with new member's posts. Their excellent responses for other members help me out alot as they refresh the "details" really well for me.
