Is it safe to relax...............?
Hi,
I've recently (4 weeks ago) started using LF 10. I don't easily relax while listening to the disk - in fact I feel I'm on the edge of alertness. This relates to a particular event in my life 30 years ago when there was a strong association set up in the unconscious between relaxation and danger.
Although I'm relatively new to the program, I'm feeling disheartened over the last couple of weeks about the possibility of engaging at all. I've done many things/practices over the years, but that deep tension still persists - in the spine, head, belly. Before taking on Lifeflow, I used Holosync (6 or 7 months) and a much shorter time with another entrainment program (Equisync) .
There have been times, recently with Lifeflow and some time ago with Holosync, when I became very anxious and felt I should stop using the disks for three days or so. That seemed useful to do and I've come back to using the disks (though there is a strong sense of anxiety in my "waking life" anyway). Can anyone out there relate to this kind of experience (the need to remain alert 24/7, and the association of relaxation and danger)?
One project that gave me some hope this evening (though I'm not sure if it's real hope or virtual hope!) is Edwin's group meditation idea. I've found over the years that I can relax more easily in the company of other people, that it's easier to let go in company.
Thank you for the forum, for all your presences and for your attention
- Pathfinder

Relaxation during meditation with LF!
Pathfinder,
The reason you end up feeling anxious after a few sessions with LF10 could be because of some past issue that you've inadvertently chose to hang onto at some time in your life. It could be the one you think it is or maybe not. We perceive many issues of importance in order to construct our "road map of reality"; as Michael calls it.
I came to LifeFlow with many issues as we all do. Some are more glaring than others. We all think our issues are the worst issues out there and for us, individually, they are.
As an example lets take pain. If the worst pain you've ever experienced is stubbing your toe you would readily rate that pain as a 10 on a one to ten scale. While someone experiencing a broken arm might think that is trite in comparison.
So how bad one perceives something to be is neither here nor there. The issue is getting beyond the current thought process around this issue in order to do our part to change this "road map of reality".
As we meditate we find ourselves, day by day, become increasingly uncomfortable during meditation. Through the process of meditation; the issues we have held so dear begin to come to the surface. Once on the surface we can look at them objectively because we realize they are past issues and can really no longer hurt us or cause us pain. However, this does take some practice. In the beginning these thoughts arise and bring a great deal of emotion along with them; therefor causing a great deal of discomfort for many (Me included).
So in essence what you are doing by laying off LifeFlow for a few days is, inadvertently, re-stuffing the negative emotions you are trying to resolve. I'm sure the ego loves this but I doubt much progress can be made this way.
You must work through the issue somehow. Many here have used other tools to get past some of the initial experiences causing painful eruptions in the beginning. EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) is one of the tools used here as well as The Sedona method. You can do a search for them either here or on the web. There is a great deal of information either place on these methods.
Personally I had quite a time with LifeFlow in the beginning and wish I had found one or the other of these first. However, I have begun to use EFT some in my everyday life to combat things that come up and it works wonderfully.
I wish you all the success in the world on your journey. There are many here that won't be 6 months from now. This is not for the weak of heart. This takes guts and nerve to continually look at your thought process and realize it's flawed in a very fundamental way. It is much akin to the poem by Robert Frost, A Road Less Traveled
". . .Two roads diverged in a wood
And I took the one less traveled by
And that has made all the difference."
As you travel down this rode you will begin to experience a new found Peace; a Peace that comes from so deep inside your being you realize it was always there. This Peace will begin to radiate outward and affect everything you see and everything you do. You will begin to see the world differently and gain a deep understanding of what you are and how your thoughts affect the world around you.
Good Luck,
gus

Superb!!!
Hey Gus,
Superb post. I really appreciate the mention that many people do leave this forum after a time which reinforces the point that the journey of self discovery is not meant to be done on "autopilot". There will be storms to sail through that require perseverence.
take care

Thanks for your thoughtful response Bashmaki and your suggestions. I hadn't decided to give up yet on the LF program, and I won't be giving up on myself either! I will check out EFT as you suggest. Sedona is something I've used in the past - it didn't suit my particular circumstances. I am sure your suggestion that "laying off LifeFlow for a few days is, inadvertently, re-stuffing the negative emotions you are trying to resolve" is good for some people, but for me it felt right to do that (i.e. lay off for a few days): my tendancy throughout my life has been to go at things headlong - laying off once in a while is for me a more nuanced and compassionate-to-self approach.
Thanks for your attention (the right kind of attention is a nutrient!). You imply that you are now finding in your life, that Peace that you speak about - that is encouraging for me too! Frank (Ps I'm going to find out how to change my username - so I may resurface in a different suit!)
