Crying
Hi all,
Had to quickly post this, would love to hear some opinions.
Last night I watched a pretty sad, emotional movie.
It got me thinking about crying and being detached from yourself.
I have heard guru's like Echkart Tolle say he sometimes crys while watching a movie or if he sees a beautiful sunset etc.
the following things came to mind:
Is crying an act of showing attachment to emotions?
Is crying about someone else's situation 'okay' compared to crying and getting stressed over your own situation? (assuming that you are trying to keep a level head about your own life)
Is crying about someone else's life different from crying about your (ego's) life?
When guru's cry are they maybe crying FOR someone, rather than crying about something that is out of your control.
I imagine crying is a relieving experience. If you are completely relieved of all attachment to emotions, is there any reason to cry.
Just some quick thoughts. Interested in hearing what other people have thought about this subject.
thanks all, bbyyeb

Crying for me is just another way of expressing one self. For example laughter, frustration, analysing, etc.
Sometimes it wells up for no apparent reason. Sometimes it is in direct response.

hmm true, i guess crying is no different to having an emotion rise up within you. to me, i took it as if crying is a sign that you have attached urself to ur emotion yet really its just something ur body does occasionally in the same way as it occasionally has emotions.
brb crying

I was checking out some stuff on YouTube and was watching the following when I remembered there was a thread on this, it may be of benefit (it seems to answer at least a couple of the questions in the original post), its only 5 mins so no big deal if not.
Eckhart Tolle 'Do you cry? Is it normal to cry?'

I have read somewhere (A path with Heart, Jack Kornfield) that you haven't even started to meditate unless you have cried. I didn't understand it when I read it but within a few pages I was crying like a child. It's about opening up the heart and coming to terms with hurt (perceived or real). We lock up too many issues rather than face them and in such a state they do hinder some aspects of meditation.

Plus, Roy Orbison sang so well about it. As I was reading this thread, the song popped into my head. What a voice that guy has! And what an amazing song.

It's ok
Crying is the dissolution of crystallized thought.
