Default Ho'oponopono as my mantra?

I'm supposed to get a mantra but I just can't seem to grasp anything that I find appealing. I was wondering if its possible to use Ho'oponopono as my mantra? I wouldn't be thinking of anyone or anything, just have a blank mind.

Breathe in - I'm sorry
Breathe out - Please forgive me
Breathe in - Thank You
Breathe out - I love you

What do you guys think?

Hi there,

the purpose of a mantra/breath or any other technique is simply a vehicle to enable you to reach the meditation state. Once you do, you simply let it go and slip into the quiet stillness within.

A mantra like OooooMmmm is a sound that will not give the mind an excuse to think about stuff and it's the busy thoughts that block the entry to the sanctuary of the silent stillness within each of us.

Forgiveness, gratitude, love and compassion are wonderful to practise, however, for me, they are things that I practise at other times than meditation. On C.D.2 of the free Discover Meditation course, Michael plays some beautiful music for about 7 minutes (after your meditation time) and recommends doing the gratitude exercise)

Perhaps you could use this time to do your extra exercise

I hope this helps and wish you much peace and joy

Polly said it all, i just want to add that these sentences are rather suggestions than a mantra. Which is not a bad thing, but maybe not explicit for meditation itself.

Any reason for using that as a mantra?

Thanks everyone for the responses. Is there a mantra you recommend for a beginning?

But I do believe I will give the OM mantra a try.

@GilesC

I read Joe Vitales book which kind of made me want to give it a try, I realize its meant to think of a problem and repeat the chant. Thought it would be a good idea of meditation.

For me I wanted to use almost like a "healing" or "forgiving" affirmation instead of just using some "random" chant. Just trying to use my time effectively. I'm obviously new to meditation I read the principles of meditation but I just thought ho'oponopono would be an effective route, oh well.
