Default Meditation positioning

Hello there i am two weeks new to meditation. I have been meditating almost everyday, by lying on my bed (listening to Lifeflow 10), concentrating on my breathing and relaxing each part of my body individually. I find the Mantras difficult to use. I have been struggling with meditation so far, but i suppose its not really surprising as not only am i new to it, but i have suffered from an anxiety disorder for a long while. The point is i would like som advice on postures. I havnt tried sitting up right on a chair, as i see it as very unrelaxing, especially as i suffer with terrible tension in my back, shoulders, and neck (though i am hoping as i let go of my anxiety that tension will eventually disappear for good). When lying down though i am eventually drifting off to sleep. Then waking up when the programmes over, slipping into the covers and sleeping some more. Then when i finally get up two hours later im tired for the rest of the day...Any suggestions? Is it difficult to relax sitting on a chair? Should i even be laying down?

Hi there Sky Seeker and welcome to the community

As you are new to meditation, I think you will find the following link extremely helpful:-

Principles of Meditation & Entrainment

I mostly lie down when I meditate with LifeFlow and remember falling asleep in the early days.

Maybe you could try short times, maybe 10 or 15 minutes with LifeFlow for a while and see how you feel. Also, you could listen without the headphones and see how you feel. Let us know how you progress and I wish you much peace and joy

Hello Sky Seeker

Personnally I like to sit straight on a chair when I meditate; and, I have no expectations while I do it.
Somedays, I am more stressed out, sometimes I am very relaxed, it depends, but my expectations are low, it is like when you go to the gym, sometimes it works well and you feel great and energetic, but sometimes it is just ok....

The important thing I think to keep in mind is to do it regularly, it is just like planting a seed.. sometimes weather is sunny, sometimes very windy, or rainy ; but the seed is intact......try it sitting on a chair, be gentle and good with yourself, even if you feel stressed out, that 's ok, just let go and go back to your breathing or mantra...thoughts are part of meditation...

I find that it is not during meditation that you feel a big difference, it is when you go through your day that there is tremendous change, I feel more focus, happier for no specific reason; less preoccupied.... I look at things , issues very differently.

Keep up your daily meditation pratice, it will get much better.

Pavlina
