Default Problems meditating. HELP

Hello everyone,

This is my first post, nice to meet you all. I began meditating about 9 months ago, but I believe I was dong it completely incorrectly. I became obsessive about it, tried to meditate at all times, and thought I could control every thought I had. I started to become frustrated about not seeing the results I wanted. Since I've begun, I've developed a tightness in my forehead that I can't seem to get rid of, and feel disconnected from everything around me because I am always paying attention to my own though process. Can you recommend anything?

Thanks

Hi Bulletproof and welcome to the Project Meditation community,

Firstly, you can't control the thoughts. They will arise from the mind as they always have. What you can do is entrain yourself to choose to let them go without getting attached to the thought and "living" it.

Secondly, if you are feeling disconnected from everything around you then this is because you are actually caught up in your thoughts (the attempt to observe the action of thoughts takes thought in itself, so you will never quieten the mind that way).

You haven't said what sort of meditation practice you have being doing?
I can recommend you download the free Discover Meditation CD's from this site and give those a go if you haven't already.

Hugs

Giles

I've tried both transcendental meditation and compassion meditation. I think you are right about me being caught up in my own thoughts. How can I solve this problem? Is there any specific Discover Meditation CD you can recommend?

Thanks again

Well, the Discover Meditation CD's you download from this site...

Project Meditation™ - Free meditation for everyone

are a set of CD's that you just listen to from start to finish and follow the instructions.

In terms of guided meditations, you may find some that suit your needs from here:

Guided Meditations - Project Meditation Community Forum

which are all free too.

Hugs

Giles
