I think it is not wise to do this excercise when you have had to process painfull or traumatic experiences in your life's past. The really heavy ones, like child abuse, or death of a parent at young age.
This could all be released at once during your realisation, and that could be a bit too much to handle for you. If you still would like to do this exercise, do it with a trained teacher, preferrably a Zen, Advaita/Yoga or chakra master.
Also someone with FreewayCER, Reiki or EFT experience can be of great help during your realisation, like GilesC.
On the other hand, if you have had a fairly normal life, don't expect too much of it. You might even be disappointed by the results at first. Don't expect to suddenly be in perfect bliss, or have really amazing experiences. You will only view life a bit differently, that is all.
