Nothing contradictory about that at all. I do the same, meditate with Lifeflow in the morning and then just a mantra meditation in the afternoon/evening time.

Well, knowing that someone as experienced as you does something similar, then I feel confident that this might be a good approach for me.
My only real struggle with the mantra meditation is the fact that I want to say it out loud and I find it a bit challenging, funny as it may be, to just "say it in my head". I have been using the simple "om" and I start out saying it out loud 4-5 times, to feel the vibrations and calm myself, but once I switch to saying it in my head, it almost seems more difficult. Perhaps this is why my experience in focusing more on just my breath was more "relaxing", as I did not feel the "awkwardness" of having to say a mantra in my head???
